Latexo Independent School District is a public school district based in Latexo, Texas, in the U.S. state of Texas. In addition to serving the city of Latexo, it also serves unincorporated north-central Houston County and a small portion of the nearby city of Crockett. The district has two campuses - Latexo High (grades 7–12) and Latexo Elementary (prekindergarten-grade 6). Latexo, Texas
Latexo ( ) is a city in Houston County, Texas, United States. Its population was 322 at the 2010 census. History Just after 1900, the Louisiana Texas Orchard Company purchased surrounding the settlement and platted a town named "Latexo", an acronym of the company's name.Temple, Robert D. The first Bethel school building was on a dirt road that ran parallel with the railroad tracks, about south of the railroad crossing at the north end of the city. The second Bethel school built in the community was located on a street that went east from what was at that time the main road that ran south along the railroad tracks. Houston County is a county located in the U.S. state of Texas. As of the 2020 census, its population was 22,066. Its county seat is Crockett. Houston County was one of 46 entirely dry counties in the state of Texas, until voters in a November 2007 special election legalized the sale of alcohol in the county. Houston County was the first new county created under the 9-year Republic of Texas on June 12, 1837. The original boundaries of Houston County also included all of present-day Anderson and Trinity Counties, and portions of present-day Henderson and Polk Counties. Crockett, Texas
Crockett is a city and the county seat of Houston County, Texas, United States. As of the 2020 census, the city population was 6,332. Houston County is the oldest county and Crockett the fifth-oldest city in Texas. History The town was named after Davy Crockett, who had camped nearby on his way to the Alamo; the site was very near the Old San Antonio Road. Andrew Edwards Gossett, a Texas Revolution soldier from Maury, Tennessee, along with his father and brother, donated the land for the town in 1836, and named it after Crockett, whom they had previously known. The town was incorporated in 1837, and a post office was granted the following year. Crockett was connected to Nacogdoches by stage service. In 1839 raids by the Alabama-Coushatta and Cherokee Indians forced the town's residents to take shelter in the fortified log courthouse.
