Late Love
''Late Love'' (German: ''Späte Liebe'') is a 1943 German historical drama film directed by Gustav Ucicky and starring Paula Wessely, Attila Hörbiger and Inge List. The film's sets were designed by the art director Werner Schlichting. It was shot at the Rosenhügel Studios in Vienna. Plot The impoverished noblewoman Sophie von Angerspang has a big problem. Her younger sister Steffi is seriously ill with respiratory disease and therefore absolutely in need of a spa. Only the good mountain air in Davos, Switzerland could help, but unfortunately Sophie cannot afford such a stay because her job as a China painter pays too little. Gustav Ucicky (6 July 1899 – 27 April 1961) was an Austrians, Austrian film director, screenwriter, and cinematographer. He was one of the more successful directors in Austria and Germany from the 1930s through to the early 1960s. Paula Conrad
Paula Conrad-Schlenther (née Conrad; 27 February 1860 – 9 August 1938) was an Austrian-German stage actress. Life Paula Conrad made her debut in 1877 in Baden bei Wien. From 1877 she was a member of the ensemble at the Königlichen Schauspielhaus in Berlin. She played Hannele in the 1983 world premiere of Gerhart Hauptmann's '' Hanneles Himmelfahrt''. Alfred Kerr recalls the premiere three decades later, admiring Conrad and stating "''blieb sie in jedem Sinn die erste"'' ("she remained in every sense the first"). Karl Ehmann (13 August 1882 – 1 November 1967) was an Austrian stage and film actor whose career spanned both the silent and sound eras of the film industry. Career Born on 13 August 1882 in Vienna, Austria-Hungary, he became interested in acting as a young man, studying in a private master class with the famous Austrian stage actor, Karl Arnau. He made his stage debut at the age of 20 in the municipal theater of Olomouc, Moravia (now part of the Czech Republic). Over the next five years he would appear in productions in Meran, South Tyrol, Linz, Upper Austria, and Graz, Austria. Monique Joyce (1912–1994) was a French model, singer and actress.Burch & Sellier p.157 She began her career appearing in Opéra comique. After winning the Mademoiselle Paris contest in March 1933 she received greater public attention and made her first film appearance that year. During the Occupation of France she appeared in several productions by the German-backed Continental Films that later led to charges of collaboration. Her final role was a supporting part in the 1943 film ''Late Love'' directed by Gustav Ucicky and made in Vienna. Following the Liberation of Paris in 1944 she headed to the Sigmaringen enclave where the Vichy government in exile was headquartered for the final months of the war.
