Last Two Minutes Report
Official (basketball), Referees in the National Basketball Association (NBA) oversee 120 pre-season games, 1,260 National Basketball Association#Regular season, regular season games, and four rounds of NBA playoffs, playoff matches. These officials "oversee competition in real-time between 10 exceptional athlete, athletes, decision-making, making calls with 95% accuracy and precision, accuracy." In March 2015, the NBA began issuing Last Two Minutes reports that detail the performance of referees at the ends of games which the point differential is within five points with two minutes or less remaining in the contest. Official (basketball)
In basketball, an official (usually called a referee) enforces the rules and maintains order in the game. The title of official also applies to the scorers and timekeepers, as well as other personnel that have an active task in maintaining the game. Basketball is regarded as among the most difficult sports to officiate due to the speed of play, complexity of rules, the case-specific interpretations of rules, and the instantaneous decision required. There is one lead referee and one or two umpires, depending on whether there is a two- or three-person crew. In the NBA, the lead official is called the crew chief with one referee and one umpire. In FIBA-sanctioned play, two-man crews consist of a referee and an umpire, and three-man crews contain a referee and two umpires. Regardless, both classes of officials have equal rights to control almost all aspects of the game. As of the 2022-23 NBA season Ford has officiated 463 regular-season games and 31 playoff games. Early life Ford was born on June 8, 1985, in Lima, Ohio. He graduated from Allen East High School in Lafayette, Ohio. Officiating career Ford officiated Division I college basketball for four seasons. Working games for the Big Ten Conference, Mid-American Conference and the Summit League. He also spent four seasons officiating the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA). Before Ford joined the NBA officiating staff, he officiated five seasons in the NBA G League, where he worked the 2014 NBA G League All-Star Game and the 2015 NBA G League Finals. Zachary Zarba (born April 28, 1975) is an American professional basketball referee in the National Basketball Association. His first season was in 2004. He wore uniform number 58 until the 2012–2013 season, when he changed to 28. Zach currently wears uniform number 15. Osie Leon Wood III (born March 25, 1962), is an American former professional basketball player. A college All-American, he was a first round NBA draft pick, and both an Olympic and Pan-Am Games gold-medalist. He subsequently has had a career as an NBA referee. Career A 6'3" point guard from Saint Monica Catholic High School, Wood was an All-American at California State University-Fullerton. William Gene Kennedy (born November 10, 1966) is an American professional basketball referee for the National Basketball Association (NBA). Kennedy graduated from St. Mary's High School in Phoenix, Arizona, and Arizona State University. He refereed in the Continental Basketball Association (CBA), refereeing the 1995 and 1996 CBA Finals. He began as an NBA referee during the 1995-96 NBA season. He has refereed five NBA Finals games, as well as the 2010 FIBA World Championships and the 2012 Summer Olympics.
