Lasara Independent School District is a public school district based in the community of Lasara in unincorporated Willacy County, Texas, United States. The district has one school - Lasara Elementary - that serves students in grades pre-kindergarten through twelfth grade in 2010. Lasara High School's doors opened in the second semester of the 2007–2008 school year. Lasara ISD had its first Seniors graduating in 2011. Previously twelfth grade students had the option of attending either Raymondville High School in the Raymondville Independent School District, Lyford High School in the Lyford Consolidated Independent School District or the Science Academies Magnet Schools (South Texas Independent School District); the last option is still open to all Willacy County residents. Lasara is a census-designated place (CDP) in Willacy County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,039 at the 2010 census. Lasara was named after Laura Harding and Sarah Gill, the wives of German settlers William Harding and Lamar Gill. Geography Lasara is located at (26.465449, -97.912001). According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 1.4 square miles (3.6 km2), all of it land. Willacy County, Texas
Willacy County is a county in the U.S. state of Texas. As of the 2020 census, its population was 20,164. Its county seat is Raymondville. The county was created in 1911 and organized the next year. Willacy County comprises the Raymondville micropolitan statistical area, which is included in the Brownsville-Harlingen-Raymondville combined statistical area, which itself is part of the larger Rio Grande Valley region. History Willacy County was formed in 1911 from parts of Cameron and Hidalgo Counties, and originally included what is now Kenedy County; it was named for state senator John G. Willacy.
