Larry O'Gorman
Larry O'Gorman (born October 1967 in Wexford, Ireland) is a retired Irish sportsperson. He played hurling with his local club Faythe Harriers and with the Wexford senior inter-county team in from the 1987 until 2004. O'Gorman is considered one of the heroes of the Wexford hurling team that won the All-Ireland All-Ireland (sometimes All-Island) refers to all of Ireland, as opposed to the separate jurisdictions of the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland. Faythe Harriers
Faythe Harriers is a Gaelic Athletic Association club located in Wexford town, Ireland. History The history of the Faythe Harriers stretches back to the early 1940s, although the hurling club wasn't formed until 1949. In the late 1930s, the Mulgannon Harriers were the G.A.A. standard-bearers in the south end of Wexford town before they disbanded. In 1941, when a football street league was started in Wexford, John Murphy, Kevin Nolan, Jimmy Williams and a few others got together and decided to enter a team. They had no jerseys, so they approached the members of the Mulgannon Harriers committee for a loan of theirs. They said that they could on condition that they use another name. John Murphy, who was later to lead the club as Chairman, suggested the name "Faythe Harriers." Both of these clubs only played football, as hurling wasn’t played much in Wexford town at the time. Wexford () is the county town of County Wexford, Ireland. Wexford lies on the south side of Wexford Harbour, the estuary of the River Slaney near the southeastern corner of the island of Ireland. Vodafone Hurler Of The Year
The GAA–GPA All-Star Hurler of the Year is a hurling award presented to the player voted as best in the country by all the players from around Ireland. It began in 1995 and honours the achievements of a hurler of outstanding excellence. Kilkenny players have won the award 10 out of 29 times, ahead of Limerick with five wins. Tipperary, Cork, Waterford and Clare have won it three times each. The award's youngest winner was Tony Kelly, who won at the age of 19 in 2013. Henry Shefflin and Cian Lynch are the only players to have won the award more than once. The oldest winner is also Henry Shefflin, who was 33 when he won in 2012. Brian Lohan
Brian Lohan (born 14 November 1971) is an Irish hurling manager and former player who is the manager of the Clare senior hurling team. As a player, he is widely considered to be one of the greatest full-backs of all time. Born and raised in Shannon, County Clare, Lohan began his hurling career at club level with Wolfe Tones. After much success at underage levels, he eventually broke on the club's senior team and enjoyed his greatest success in 1996 when he captained the team to the Munster Club Championship. Lohan also won two Clare Club Championships during his career. Lohan lined out for Clare in two different grades of hurling over a 14-year period. After making his first appearance for the under-21 team in May 1992, he made his competitive debut for the senior team aged 21 in 1993. Jamesie O'Connor
Jamesie O'Connor (born 28 July 1972) is an Irish former hurler who played as a midfielder for the Clare senior hurling team. O'Connor made his first appearance for the team during the 1992–93 National League and became a regular member of the starting fifteen until his retirement after the 2004 championship. During that time he won two All-Ireland medals, three Munster medals and four All-Star awards. He ended up as an All-Ireland runner-up on one occasion. At club level O'Connor was an All-Ireland medalist with St Joseph's Doora-Barefield. He also won two Munster medals and three county club championship medals. The Texaco Hurler of the Year was a hurling award, created in 1958, that honoured the achievements of a hurler of outstanding excellence. The award was part of the Texaco Sportstars Awards, in which Irish sportspeople from all fields were honoured.
