Larocque is a French language surname found primarily in Quebec, Nova Scotia (formerly Acadia), Prince Edward Island, Ontario, and the New England region of the United States. There are four main branches of the Larocque surname in North America: * Philibert Couillaud dit Roquebrune (1641–1700), is known to be from the diocese of Nevers in France. Because his marriage record was never found his parents name and location in France remain unknown. He was said to be a member of the Carignan-Salières Regiment. The regiment landed in Quebec in 1665. He was sent primarily to defend New France from the Iroquois, and eventually settled down in Contrecoeur, Quebec. Jocelyne Dawn Marie Larocque (born May 19, 1988) is a Canadian ice hockey player and current independent member of the PWHPA. She previously played with the Calgary Inferno and Markham Thunder of the Canadian Women's Hockey League (CWHL), the Calgary Oval X-Treme and Manitoba Maple Leafs of the Western Women's Hockey League (WWHL), and the Minnesota-Duluth Bulldogs of the Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA). With the Bulldogs, she was a two-time NCAA Women's Ice Hockey Tournament champion (2008, 2010). Larocque is of Métis heritage and was the first indigenous athlete to participate in the women's ice hockey tournament at the Winter Olympics. Michel Larocque (ice Hockey, Born 1952)
Michel Raymond "Bunny" Larocque (April 6, 1952 – July 29, 1992) was a Canadian professional ice hockey goaltender who played for the Montreal Canadiens, Toronto Maple Leafs, Philadelphia Flyers and St. Louis Blues in the National Hockey League. Playing career Larocque played junior hockey with the Ottawa 67's of the Ontario Hockey Association (OHA) from 1968 to 1972, and led the league in shutouts for the last three of those years. He was also one of the most penalized goalies, and was regularly involved in fights. In 1972, he was selected sixth overall by the Montreal Canadiens in the 1972 NHL Amateur Draft. In 1973 he played with the Nova Scotia Voyageurs of the American Hockey League (AHL), his first taste of professional hockey. For his outstanding play, Larocque was awarded the Hap Holmes Memorial Award with teammate Michel Deguise, and was selected to the Second All-Star Team. François-Antoine Larocque
François-Antoine Larocque (August 19, 1784 – May 1, 1869) was a Québécois businessman involved in the fur trade. He was born in L'Assomption in 1784, the son of François-Antoine Larocque, and studied at the Collège de Montréal. After his father's death in 1792, he went to the United States and learned English. He joined the XY Company as a clerk and worked in the Assiniboine River region. However, when the North West Company took over its short-lived competitor in the fall of 1804, he traveled south to the Mandan and Hidatsa villages along the Upper Missouri. There Larocque met the Lewis and Clarke Expedition, dined several times in the company of the Captains, and asked leave to borrow their translator, Toussaint Charbonneau. Joseph Larocque (April 2, 1831 – June 9, 1908) was a New York City lawyer and president of the New York City Bar Association. Biography He was born in New York City in 1831 and educated at Columbia University. Several years after his admission to New York City Bar Association, he partnered with Judge William G. Choate to form the law firm of Shipman, Larocque & Choate, where he practiced until his retirement in 1899. Larocque was a director of a number of companies, including the American Cotton Oil Company, the Commonwealth Insurance Company of New York, Niagara Falls Power Company, and Plaza Bank. He also served on the boards of a number of New York City institutions, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Century Club, and Columbia University. Larocque was active in reform politics, serving as president of the New York City Bar Association from 1894 to 1895 and as chairman of the pro-Temperance Committee of Fifty in 1894. Mario Larocque (born April 24, 1978) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey defenceman. Playing career As a youth, Larocque played in the 1992 Quebec International Pee-Wee Hockey Tournament with a minor ice hockey team from Montreal. Larocque was drafted in the first round, 16th overall by the Tampa Bay Lightning in 1996. He managed to play five NHL games for the Lightning during the 1998–99 NHL season, scoring no points with 16 penalty minutes. He spent the rest of that season in the International Hockey League with the Cleveland Lumberjacks before playing two seasons with the Detroit Vipers of the same league. Gédéon Larocque (December 21, 1831 – October 23, 1903) was a physician and political figure in Quebec. He represented Chambly in the Legislative Assembly of Quebec from 1871 to 1875 as a Liberal member. Jacques Larocque is a Canadian saxophonist, arranger, music educator, and university administrator. He has authored and published numerous transcriptions and arrangements for saxophone quartet; some of which have been recorded by ensembles like the Alliage Saxophone Quartet and the American Saxophone Quartet. He has appeared numerous times on CBC Radio as a soloist and chamber musician and has been a soloist with the Montreal Symphony Orchestra, Quebec Symphony Orchestra, and Orchestre symphonique de Trois-Rivières among others. Larocque studied the saxophone at the Conservatoire de musique du Québec à Montréal with Arthur Romano and Pierre Bourque (saxophonist), Pierre Bourque. Greg LaRocque (born February 24, 1954) is an American comics artist best known for his work on the ''Legion of Super-Heroes'' and ''The Flash''. Born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland, LaRocque worked as an assistant teacher at the Professional Institute of Art while still a teenager. He started his art career in the advertising field.
