Larkhall
Larkhall ( sco, Larkhauch, gd, Taigh na h-Uiseig) is a town in South Lanarkshire, Scotland, around southeast of Glasgow. It is twinned with Seclin in northern France. Larkhall sits on high ground between the River Clyde to the East and the Avon Water to the West. Larkhall sits on the edge of the scenic Clyde valley and is a commuter town for Glasgow. Larkhall had a population of 14,951 in the 2011 UK Census, and is a typical Scottish former industrial town. Traditionally a mining, weaving and textile area, most of Larkhall's traditional industries have now closed down, including the Lanarkshire ironworks. Toponym The name Larkhall or ''Laverock Ha'' first appears in journals around 1620. The origins of the name are unknown, although Laverock is the Scots word for ''skylark''. Gerry Baker
Gerard Austin "Gerry" Baker (11 April 1938 – 24 August 2013) was an American soccer player. From 1955 until 1970, he played 16 seasons in either the Scottish or English first division. He earned seven caps with the US national team in 1968 and 1969, scoring two goals. His younger brother was the footballer Joe Baker. Youth Baker was born to an English father and Scottish mother in New Rochelle, New York, where they were settled at the time. In 1939, his parents moved for a short while to Liverpool, where Gerry's brother, future England international Joe Baker, was born. Their father volunteered in the Merchant Marine during World War II and died on active service. The family was evacuated to Scotland, and the brothers were raised in Motherwell. He attended Park Primary and St Joseph's Secondary schools. He played football for Craigneuk Boys Club and was selected for Lanarkshire Schools. Paddy McConnell
Patrick McConnell (5 February 1900 – 14 November 1971) was an Irish footballer who played as an inside forward for Bradford City, Doncaster Rovers, Southport, Shelbourne, Boston United, Spalding United, Grantham Town, Hibernian and Ireland. In total he scored 30 goals in 201 matches in the Football League. He was both the first player representing both Doncaster and Southport to appear in an international match. The United States men's national soccer team (USMNT) represents the United States in men's international soccer competitions.
