Lapeer West High School
Lapeer West High School was one of two public high schools in Lapeer, Michigan. It is on the west side of the M-24 highway. Lapeer West High School was previously Lapeer High School. The current building opened in 1961; the previous high school, built in 1922, became White Junior High School, which closed in 1995. It took its current name upon the 1976 opening of Lapeer East High School. Lapeer West closed at the end of the 2013–2014 school year as Lapeer Community Schools consolidated the faculties and student bodies of the two high schools into a single high school, which will be located on the Lapeer East campus. Today, the Lapeer West building is the Lapeer Community Schools' Center for Innovation, allowing students to take courses never before offered in their schools. Its athletic fields will remain the home of the Lapeer High School Lightning outdoor sports teams. M-24 (Michigan Highway)
M-24 is a north–south state trunkline highway in the U.S. state of Michigan that extends through Southeast Michigan and The Thumb, from northeast Auburn Hills to Unionville. It starts at an interchange with Interstate 75 (I-75) and ends where it merges with M-25. While the M-24 designation is similar to that of US Highway 24 (US 24) which has a northern terminus located only a few miles from the southern terminus of M-24, M-24 was never part of US 24. The first M-24 in Michigan was replaced by M-20 when US 10 replaced the original M-20 in 1926. A 1936 bypass of downtown Pontiac resulted in the creation of M-24A which later became BUS M-24 in 1940. An extension in 1997 moved the northern end of M-24 northward from Caro to Unionville, replacing a section of M-138 in the process. Lapeer East High School was a public high school located in Lapeer, Michigan. It was the rival school of Lapeer West High School. In 2010, all portable classrooms were removed and the school was reverted to 9-12 grade students. It was built in 1975 as a result of overcrowding of the former Lapeer High School, which became Lapeer West High School. South Lyon High School is a public high school located in South Lyon, Michigan, United States, and is part of South Lyon Community Schools. Its cross-town rival is South Lyon East High School. History The South Lyon Union School District was formed in 1876. In 1915, South Lyon Union High School was constructed on the same site at Liberty and Warren.
