Lenz's Law
Lenz's law states that the direction of the electric current induced in a conductor by a changing magnetic field is such that the magnetic field created by the induced current opposes changes in the initial magnetic field. It is named after physicist Emil Lenz, who formulated it in 1834. It is a qualitative law that specifies the direction of induced current, but states nothing about its magnitude. Lenz's law predicts the direction of many effects in electromagnetism, such as the direction of voltage induced in an inductor or wire loop by a changing current, or the drag force of eddy currents exerted on moving objects in a magnetic field. Lenz's law may be seen as analogous to Newton's third law in classical mechanicsSchmitt, Ron ''Electromagnetics explained'' 2002. Retrieved 16 July 2010. and Le Chatelier's principle in chemistry. Definition Lenz's law states that: The current induced in a circuit due to a change in a magnetic field is directed to oppose the change in fl ...

Lenz Field
Future Champions Sports Complex, formerly known as Lenz Field, is a multi-field baseball and softball complex in Jacksonville, Illinois. The complex is privately owned by area residents Adam and Kristin Jamison, along with several partners. In a typical tournament season, the complex hosts approximately thirty events, in addition to several standalone college and area high school baseball and softball games. Its estimated yearly impact on the local economy is approximately $3M, according to Jacksonville's mayor, Andy Ezard. History The complex began as a single field, built to Little League standard dimensions In physics and mathematics, the dimension of a mathematical space (or object) is informally defined as the minimum number of coordinates needed to specify any point within it. Thus, a line has a dimension of one (1D) because only one coordina ... that was completed in June 2007, at a cost of approximately $400,000. The original field, now known as Field #4 within the c ...

Lenz (fragment)
''Lenz'' is a novella fragment written by Georg Büchner in Strasbourg in 1836. It is based on the documentary evidence of Jean Frédéric Oberlin's diary. Jakob Michael Reinhold Lenz, a friend of Goethe, is the subject of the story. In March 1776 he met Goethe in Weimar. Later he suffered from mental disorder and was sent to Oberlin's vicarage in the Steintal. The story is concerned with this last incident. Although left unfinished at the time of Büchner's death in 1837, it has been seen as a precursor to literary modernism. Its influence on later writers has been immense. The story has been adapted for the stage as ''Jakob Lenz'', a 1978 chamber opera by Wolfgang Rihm. Editions in English * ''Lenz''. Translated by Michael Hamburger. West Newbury: Frontier Press, 1969. * ''Woyzeck and Lenz''. Translated by Hedwig Rappolt. New York: TSL Press, 1988. * ''Lenz''. Translated by Richard Sieburth. Lenz Microphthalmia Syndrome
Lenz microphthalmia syndrome is a very rare inherited disorder characterized by abnormal smallness of one or both eyes ( microphthalmos) sometimes with droopy eyelids ( blepharoptosis), resulting in visual impairment or blindness. Eye problems may include coloboma, microcornea, and glaucoma. Some affected infants may have complete absence of the eyes (anophthalmia). Most affected infants have developmental delay and intellectual disability, ranging from mild to severe. Other physical abnormalities associated with this disorder can include an unusually small head (microcephaly), and malformations of the teeth, ears, fingers or toes, skeleton, and genitourinary system. The range and severity of findings vary from case to case. Formal diagnosis criteria do not exist. Lenz microphthalmia syndrome is also known as LMS, Lenz syndrome, Lenz dysplasia, Lenz dysmorphogenetic syndrome, or microphthalmia with multiple associated anomalies (MAA: OMIM 309800). It is named after Widukind Lenz, a ...

Lenasia
Lenasia, often called Lenz, is a suburb south of Soweto in the Gauteng province, South Africa, originally created to house Indians. It is part of the City of Johannesburg Metropolitan Municipality. Lenasia is approximately 35 kilometres southwest of the Johannesburg Central Business District and 45 kilometres south of the Sandton Central Business District. History Early history Apartheid-era planners situated the group area for Johannesburg's Indians near the Lenz Military Base. It originates from 1958. The name "Lenasia" is thought to be a combination of the words "Lenz" and "Asia". The Lenz in question was one Captain Lenz who owned the original plot on which Lenasia is situated. According to Parnell and Pirie the foundations for Lenasia were laid in 1963. Many of its early residents were forcibly removed under the Group Areas Act from Pageview and the portion of Vrededorp populated by non whites (jointly known as Fietas) and Fordsburg, areas close to the Johannesburg city c ...

Lents (crater)
Lents is a small lunar impact crater on the far side of the Moon. It is located within the north-northwestern section of the immense skirt of ejecta that surrounds the Mare Orientale impact basin. To the south is the Montes Cordillera mountain ring, and to the north-northeast is the damaged crater Elvey. This is a bowl-shaped formation with an interior floor that is about half the diameter of the crater. Attached to the northeastern exterior of Lents is the satellite crater Lents C, a feature of roughly the same dimension. Slightly more than a crater diameter to the east of Lents C is Pierazzo, which produced a broad, wispy ray system A ray system comprises radial streaks of fine '' ejecta'' thrown out during the formation of an impact crater, looking somewhat like many thin spokes coming from the hub of a wheel. The rays may extend for lengths up to several times the diameter ... that extends for more than 100 km in all directions. The ray material from this impact lies ...
