Lantra Fernando
Lantra Fernando (20 August 1956 – 23 June 2014) was a Sri Lankan cricketer. He played first-class cricket for Moratuwa Sports Club and Old Cambrians Sports Club between 1980 and 1992. He was part of Sri Lanka's side during the South African rebel tours in 1982. In September 2018, he was one of 49 former Sri Lankan cricketers felicitated by Sri Lanka Cricket, to honour them for their services before Sri Lanka became a full member of the International Cricket Council The International Cricket Council (ICC) is the world governing body of cricket. Colombo ( ; si, කොළඹ, translit=Koḷam̆ba, ; ta, கொழும்பு, translit=Koḻumpu, ) is the executive and judicial capital and largest city of Sri Lanka by population. Cricket
Cricket is a bat-and-ball game played between two teams of eleven players on a field at the centre of which is a pitch with a wicket at each end, each comprising two bails balanced on three stumps. The batting side scores runs by striking the ball bowled at one of the wickets with the bat and then running between the wickets, while the bowling and fielding side tries to prevent this (by preventing the ball from leaving the field, and getting the ball to either wicket) and dismiss each batter (so they are "out"). Means of dismissal include being bowled, when the ball hits the stumps and dislodges the bails, and by the fielding side either catching the ball after it is hit by the bat, but before it hits the ground, or hitting a wicket with the ball before a batter can cross the crease in front of the wicket. First-class Cricket
First-class cricket, along with List A cricket and Twenty20 cricket, is one of the highest-standard forms of cricket. A first-class match is one of three or more days' scheduled duration between two sides of eleven players each and is officially adjudged to be worthy of the status by virtue of the standard of the competing teams. Matches must allow for the teams to play two innings each, although in practice a team might play only one innings or none at all. The etymology of "first-class cricket" is unknown, but it was used loosely before it acquired official status in 1895, following a meeting of leading English clubs. At a meeting of the Imperial Cricket Conference (ICC) in 1947, it was formally defined on a global basis. Moratuwa Sports Club
Moratuwa Sports Club was a first-class cricket team in Sri Lanka. It competed in the Premier Trophy, Sri Lanka's main first-class cricket competition, for 13 of the seasons following the international recognition of first-class status for the 1988–89 season, although its first-class status was not continuous. In addition, it competed in the Premier Limited Overs Tournament, Sri Lanka's main List A cricket competition, for five seasons. Status in different cricket seasons Moratuwa's matches in the Premier Trophy are considered by international cricket authorities as having been of first-class status in the seasons 1988–1991, 1992–1996, 2001–2004 and 2007–2010. Old Cambrians Sports Club
Old Cambrians Sports Club is a former first-class cricket team in Sri Lanka. Old Cambrians competed in the Sri Lankan first-class competition in 1989-90 and 1991–92. Of their 14 matches they won one, lost five and drew eight. They played their home matches at Tyronne Fernando Stadium, Moratuwa. They continue to compete at sub-first-class levels. South African Rebel Tours
The South African rebel tours were a series of seven cricket tours staged between 1982 and 1990. They were known as the rebel tours because the international cricketing bodies banned South Africa from competitive international cricket throughout this period because of apartheid. As such the tours were organised and conducted in spite of the express disapproval of national cricket boards and governments, the International Cricket Conference and international organisations such as the United Nations. The tours were the subject of enormous contemporaneous controversy and remain a sensitive topic throughout the cricket-playing world. Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) is the governing body for cricket in Sri Lanka. It was first registered with the Sri Lankan Ministry of Sports (Sri Lanka), Ministry of Sports as the Board of Cricket for Sri Lanka (BCCSL) on 30 June 1975 as a national sports body. The board was renamed in 2003. The International Cricket Council (ICC) was founded at Lord's on 15 June 1909 as the Imperial Cricket Conference, with Australia, England, and South Africa as its founding members. In the beginning, only countries within the Commonwealth could join. India, New Zealand and the West Indies joined in 1926, and Pakistan joined in 1953. Sri Lankan Cricketers
Shri (; , ) is a Sanskrit term denoting resplendence, wealth and prosperity, primarily used as an honorific. The word is widely used in South and Southeast Asian languages such as Marathi, Malay (including Indonesian and Malaysian), Javanese, Balinese, Sinhala, Thai, Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, Nepali, Malayalam, Kannada, Sanskrit, Pali, Khmer, and also among Philippine languages.
