The lanes and arcades of Perth, Western Australia are collectively becoming culturally important to the city. In 2007 changes to Liquor Licensing Regulations in Western Australia opened up the opportunities for small bars. This was followed in August 2008 by the City of Perth formally adopting a laneways enhancement strategy, "Forgotten Spaces – Revitalising Perth's Laneways". Shafto Lane Shafto Lane links Hay and Murray Streets. It was originally two lanes, Chipper Lane from Hay Street to Murray Street and Barratt Lane from Murray Street to Wellington Street. Chipper Lane was originally the internal laneway for the Chipper property. Perth
Perth is the capital and largest city of the Australian state of Western Australia. It is the fourth most populous city in Australia and Oceania, with a population of 2.1 million (80% of the state) living in Greater Perth in 2020. Hyuro born Tamara Djurovic (1974 – November 19, 2020) was an Argentinian-born Street artist who came to notice when based in Valencia in Spain. Her huge murals appear in many countries. They frequently feature faceless women and they highlight issues including gender based violence and deaths due to abortion. Life She was born in 1974 in Argentina. She had learned to be an artist and paint but on canvas. Her career came to notice when she came to Europe to take a master's degree at the Technical University of Valencia and she became involved in street art. She was introduced to the appeal of murals by Escif who is based in Valencia. He was born in 1997 and his art consists of simple images designed to make the viewer think. Brookfield Place is a skyscraper within the Brookfield Place office complex in Perth, Western Australia. It is currently the second tallest building in Western Australia. Located at 125 St Georges Terrace, the major tenant is BHP. Construction commenced in April 2008 and was completed in 2012. Mounts Bay Road
Mounts Bay Road is a major road in Perth, Western Australia, extending southwest from the central business district along the north bank of the Swan River, at the base of Kings Park. Route description Mounts Bay Road runs between William Street and Winthrop Avenue in Crawley, continuing towards Fremantle as Stirling Highway and linking Perth with the University of Western Australia (UWA) and the riverside suburbs of Nedlands and Claremont. Grand Theatre, Perth
The Grand Theatre was a theatre and cinema located at 164–168 Murray Street, Perth, Western Australia. It was opened in September 1916 and closed in November 1980. The building was demolished in March 1990. History The Grand Theatre opened on Wednesday 20 September 1916, with a seating capacity of 1,300, with 1,000 in the stalls and 300 in the dress circle. It was opened by the Mayor of Perth, Frank Rea, with a charity fund-raising gala for wounded soldiers, which included a performance by a "Soldiers Orchestra" and the screening of ''A Yellow Streak'', featuring Lionel Barrymore. Barrack Street is one of two major cross-streets in the Perth central business district, central business district of Perth, Western Australia. Stormie Mills (born 1969) is a street/ visual artist operating out of Perth, Western Australia. Mills' portfolio has been published in two books, ''Proximamente'' (2008) and ''Dwi Yma'' (2013). Life and career Mills was born in 1969 in Colwyn Bay, a coastal town in northern Wales, and moved with his brothers Barnaby and Oliver and his parents Gani and Christopher to Perth, Western Australia when he was three. In 1984 Mills discovered spray-paint and painting in the streets, and at 16 years of age he travelled back to Wales to live with his grandmother before visiting New York in 1986. The Esplanade is a road between Barrack Street and William Street in the Perth central business district. It has been regularly confused with the former reserve Esplanade Reserve, that existed before the creation of Elizabeth Quay. St Georges Terrace
St Georges Terrace (colloquially known as "The Terrace") is the main street in the city of Perth, Western Australia. It runs parallel to the Swan River and forms the major arterial road through the central business district. Its western end is marked by the Barracks Arch near Parliament House across the Mitchell Freeway; the eastern end joins Adelaide Terrace at the intersection with Victoria Avenue. Naming St Georges Terrace was named after St George's Cathedral. Originally, houses occupied by clergy of the cathedral and lay clerks of the cathedral choir constituted a substantial portion of the Terrace. Some of these houses such as The Deanery remain, however the majority of these were demolished in the 1960s. The apostrophe was removed from the name in the 1980s. ROA (artist)
ROA (born c. 1976) is a graffiti and street artist from Ghent, Belgium. He has created works on the streets of cities across Europe, the United States, Australia, Asia, New Zealand and Africa. ROA generally paints wild or urban animals and birds that are native to the area being painted. ROA usually uses a minimal color palette, such as black and white, but also creates works using vibrant colours depicting the flesh or internal systems within the animals and birds.
