Aaron Landes
Aaron Landes (October 1, 1929 – April 19, 2014) was an American rabbi in the Conservative movement and a rear admiral in the United States Naval Reserve. He served as rabbi of Beth Sholom Congregation in Elkins Park, Pennsylvania for 36 years. With his wife, Sora Eisenberg Landes, he founded the Forman Hebrew Day School, now known as the Forman branch of the Perelman Jewish Day School. He also was instrumental in founding the Hebrew Free Loan Society of Greater Philadelphia. During his time in Philadelphia, Landes served on the Board of Governors at Gratz College. Born in 1929 in Revere, Massachusetts, Landes served in the United States Navy for two years after his ordination and continued in the United States Navy Reserve until 1989, reaching the rank of Rear Admiral and retiring as Director of all reserve chaplains in the U.S. Navy Chaplain Corps. Richard Landes
Richard Allen Landes (born June 26, 1949) is an American historian and author who specializes in medieval millennial thinking. Until 2015 he taught at Boston University, and then began working at Bar-Ilan University, where his current interests include defending the politics of Israel in the light of what he calls media manipulation by Palestinians. Biography Landes is the son of the late American-Jewish Harvard Professor of Economics and History David Landes. His early publications were concerned with hagiography; his first published monograph was a translation of the ''vita'' of Saint Martial; his second on the scribe and forger Adémar de Chabannes. An umpire is an official in a variety of sports and competition, responsible for enforcing the rules of the sport, including sportsmanship decisions such as ejection. The term derives from the Old French nonper, ''non'', "not" and ''per'', "equal": "one who is requested to act as arbiter of a dispute between two people". Stan Landes
Stanley Albert Landes (December 8, 1923 – January 23, 1994) was an American professional baseball umpire who worked in the National League from 1955 to 1972. Landes umpired 2,872 major league games in his 18-year career. He umpired in three World Series (1960, 1962 and 1968), one League Championship Series (1970) and three All-Star Games (1957, 1961 and 1972). Early life After serving in the United States Marine Corps from 1942 to 1945, Landes pitched in minor league baseball in 1946 and 1947. Umpiring career Landes umpired for several seasons in the North Atlantic League, Middle Atlantic League, South Atlantic League and the American Association. Ruth Landes (October 8, 1908 – February 11, 1991) was an American cultural anthropologist best known for studies on the Brazilian religion of Candomblé and her published study on the topic, ''City of Women'' (1947). Landes is recognized by some as a pioneer in the study of race and gender relations. Early life Ruth Schlossberg was born in Manhattan, the daughter of Russian Jewish immigrants. Her father was Joseph Schlossberg, a cofounder and long-term secretary-general of the Amalgamated Clothing Workers of America. Roger Arthur Landes, LdH CdeG MC & Bar (16 December 1916 – 16 July 2008), code named Stanislas and Aristide, was an agent of the United Kingdom's clandestine Special Operations Executive (SOE) organization during World War II in France. The purpose of SOE was to conduct espionage, sabotage, and reconnaissance in countries occupied by the Axis powers, especially Nazi Germany. A rabbi () is a spiritual leader or religious teacher in Judaism. He attended the University of Florida where he joined the Florida National Guard where he was sent to capture Pancho Villa. He married Kathryn G.
