Land (Land Album)
''Land'' is the eponymous first full-length album by the American group Land. ''Land'' was recorded at Jack Straw Productions in Seattle in 1994 and released by the Australian label Extreme in 1995. All tracks were composed by Jeff Greinke with the exception of "Shu", which was composed by Greinke and Dennis Rea. Prior to ''Land'' group leader Jeff Greinke's solo albums had been mainly heavily layered and textured ambient music. With Land Greinke's goal "was to push this layering technique using a four-piece band, although texture continues to be a focus." Chris Nickson, in his Allmusic review, describes ''LAND'', in part, as "...an album that teases, tickles, grates, and always satisfies in its ambition and performance." and adds that Land "...create an organic -- if often electronic -- whole. Dennis Rea
Dennis Rea (born July 7, 1957) is an American guitarist, author, and music event organizer. He was a member of the electronic music group Earthstar in the late 1970s and early 1980s. He leads the progressive rock quintet Moraine and worked with Jeff Greinke in Land. Other significant involvements have included Flame Tree, Identity Crisis, Iron Kim Style, Savant, Stackpole, Tempered Steel, and Zhongyu. Rea has collaborated with Hector Zazou, Bill Rieflin and Trey Gunn of King Crimson, Hawkwind cofounder Nik Turner, Chinese rock musician Cui Jian, drummer Han Bennink, Tuvan throat singers Albert Kuvezin and Saylik Ommun, and Mexican experimental duo Cabezas de Cera. Archipelago (album)
''Archipelago'' is the second album by the American group Land, who blend jazz, rock, and world music. A May, 1996 concert broadcast formed the basis for most of the album, ''Archipelago''. "Deep", the final track for ''Archipelago'', was recorded in February 1997, with finishing touches completed in July. The album was released on the Periplum label later that year. Jeff Greinke
Jeff Greinke is an American ambient music and jazz artist and composer currently based in Tucson, Arizona. He is known as one of the pioneers of dark ambient music, with his earlier solo albums often compared to works by Robert Rich, Brian Eno, and Vidna Obmana. Greinke's approach on his ambient works is to heavily layer, multitrack, and texture soundscapes, effectively using the studio as an instrument. In 1993 Greinke founded the group LAND, described by guitarist Dennis Rea as "an odd blend of jazz, rock, electronic, and world music." LAND released three albums between 1995 and 2001 and also played live extensively, including a 1996 tour of China, Hong Kong, and Macau. Greinke is also half of the duo Hana with Sky Cries Mary vocalist Anisa Romero. Hana has released two albums to date.
