Lance's Right (also known as HT's) is a surf reef break located in Indonesia, off Sipore Island, part of Sumatra's Mentawai Island chain. A reef break is an area in the ocean where waves start to break once they reach the shallows of a reef. Lance's Right is known as one of the most perfect waves, and the crown jewel of the Mentawai Isles. Origin of the name It is known as a right, which means the wave breaks from right to left from the perspective of a watcher on shore. The location is named after the first person to find this wave, Lance Knight. Lance Knight came to the Mentawai Islands in 1991 in search of new waves, and eventually paid a local man in a canoe to take him upon the wave now known as Lance's Right. A group of surfers on the boat Indies Trader found Lance 2 weeks later, and the captain, Martin Daly, named the spot Lance's Right in honor of the first person to surf it. Surfing
Surfing is a surface water sport in which an individual, a surfer (or two in tandem surfing), uses a board to ride on the forward section, or face, of a moving wave of water, which usually carries the surfer towards the shore. Waves suitable for surfing are primarily found on ocean shores, but can also be found in standing waves in the open ocean, in lakes, in rivers in the form of a tidal bore, or in wave pools. Sipura
Sipora (Indonesian: ''Sipora'' or sometimes spelled ''Sipura'') located off Sumatra in the West Sumatra Province of Indonesia, is the second-smallest and most developed of the four Mentawai Islands at only 651.55 km2. Sumatra

Mentawai Islands Regency
The Mentawai Islands Regency are a chain of about seventy islands and islets approximately off the western coast of Sumatra in Indonesia. They cover 6,033.76 km2 and had a population of 76,173 at the 2010 Census and 87,623 at the 2020 Census. Siberut at is the largest of the islands. Lance At Lances Rights
A lance is a spear designed to be used by a mounted warrior or cavalry soldier (lancer). In ancient and medieval warfare, it evolved into the leading weapon in cavalry charges, and was unsuited for throwing or for repeated thrusting, unlike similar weapons of the javelin and pike family typically used by infantry. Lances were often equipped with a vamplate, a small circular plate to prevent the hand sliding up the shaft upon impact, and beginning in the late 14th century were used in conjunction with a lance rest attached to the breastplate. MV Indies Trader
The MV Indies Trader is a surf exploration vessel, which took part in Quiksilver's Crossing from 1999-2005, and is known as the most iconic vessel in modern surfing. The Rader Richard ‘Rick’ James designed the ''Rader'' (now ''Indies Trader'') as well as 150 of Australia’s most iconic vessels. He graduated University of Queensland’s Bachelor of Naval Architecture program. It was owned first by Dave Barnett, a New Zealander raised in Fiji, using it for marine salvage jobs, the primary function of the boats large cargo hold and crane. Extension and renaming After diving a big wreck and finding controversial treasure, Dave Barnett decided to sell the boat to one of his crew, Martin Daly. Martin Daly (captain)
Martin Daly (born 1957) is an Australian Captain and surfer who is known for his surf discoveries aboard the '' M.V. Indies Trader'' and is known as "surfing's most iconic boat captain". Early life Martin Meg Daly was born on the northern beaches of Sydney, but moved to Queensland at age 11 where surfing isn't possible. By age 16, he left home and lived in New Zealand. By 1981, he left to South East Asia doing marine diving jobs. In 1981, he worked with friends Jeff Chitty and Ross Hannon, and they began working with a salvage diver and boat captain, Dave Barnett, on his boat ''The Rader''. The World Surf League (WSL) is the governing body for professional surfers and is dedicated to showcasing the world's best talent in a variety of progressive formats. The World Surf League was originally known as the International Professional Surfing founded by Fred Hemmings and Randy Rarick in 1976. IPS created the first world circuit of pro surfing events.
