Lamington Bridge
Lamington Bridge is a heritage-listed road bridge over the Mary River from Gympie Road, Tinana to Ferry Street, Maryborough, both in the Fraser Coast Region, Queensland, Australia. It was designed by Alfred Barton Brady and built from to 1970 by McArdle & Thompson. It was added to the Queensland Heritage Register on 21 October 1992. The bridge is one of the earliest concrete bridges in Australia. As it replaced a high set timber bridge which was demolished during the disastrous floods of 1893, the present bridge is a low level bridge designed for inundation, as it is less likely to be damaged by floating debris during floods. It was opened to traffic on 30 October 1896 and was named in honour of Lord Lamington, Governor of Queensland. The bridge is inundated with water once the river level reaches 5.5metres. David Dalrymple (Australian Politician)
David Hay Dalrymple was an Australian pastoralist, chemist/druggist, and politician in Queensland, Australia. He was a Mayor of Mackay and a Member of the Queensland Legislative Assembly. Early life Dalrymple was born on 14 December 1840 in Newbury, Berkshire, England, the son of James Dalrymple and his wife Georgina (née Hay). He was educated at the Independent College in Taunton and attended lectures at the Bristol Medical School. Dalrymple arrived in Mackay in 1863. He was married to Euphemia Margaret McLean in Mackay on 23 Dec 1880 and had two sons and two daughters. He was a pastoralist, chemist and druggist. Politics Dalrymple served on community boards and served as the Mayor of Mackay from 1869 to 1871 and again in 1873–1874. He was a Member of the Queensland Legislative Assembly for Mackay from 5 May 1888 to 27 August 1904. The Victoria Bridge is a vehicular and pedestrian bridge over the Brisbane River. The current bridge, opened in 1969, is the third permanent crossing erected at this location. Since 24 January 2021, the bridge was closed to general traffic and carried buses, pedestrians and cyclists only.
