Solstice (UK Doom Metal Band)
Solstice is an English epic doom metal band from Dewsbury, founded by Rich Walker after the breakup of his previous hardcore punk / grindcore bands Sore Throat and Warfear. Rich Walker previously ran The Miskatonic Foundation, a record label dedicated to doom metal and traditional heavy metal. History Contemporary with the second wave of black metal that was especially active in Norway and other Scandinavian nations, Solstice released their debut album ''Lamentations'' on England's Candlelight Records in 1994. The album was followed by a UK tour with Count Raven and a European tour with Anathema. 1996 saw the release of the ''Halcyon'' EP on Godhead Recordings; two years later, the band signed with Misanthropy Records, which helped release ''New Dark Age''. During these times, Solstice were experiencing issues with their line-up, which culminated in them splitting up in 2002. Solstice was reunited in 2007 after a five-year hiatus. Doom metal is an extreme subgenre of heavy metal music that typically uses slower tempos, low-tuned guitars and a much "thicker" or "heavier" sound than other heavy metal genres.K. Candlelight Records
Candlelight Records is a British record label based in England and founded by former Extreme Noise Terror bassist Lee Barrett, though it has had a division in the United States since January 2001. Candlelight Records specialises in black metal, and later on melodic death metal and death metal, having bands such as Emperor, Obituary, 1349, Theatre of Tragedy, Xerath, Dismember, Keep of Kalessin, Nachtmystium and Zyklon on its roster. The label is notable for putting out early releases from influential bands such as Opeth and Emperor. Candlelight Records is in co-operation with Appease Me Records and AFM Records. On January 19, 2016, Candlelight was acquired by Spinefarm Records. Gian Pyres (born Gianpiero Piras, 20 October 1973) is an English guitarist, best known for his work with extreme metal band Cradle of Filth for which he recorded guitars for '' Cruelty and the Beast'' (1998), ''Midian'' (2000), ''Bitter Suites to Succubi'' (2001) and ''Lovecraft & Witch Hearts'' (2002). He appeared on their DVDs ''Heavy, Left-Handed and Candid'' (2001), ''Live Bait for the Dead'' (2001) and ''Peace Through Superior Firepower'' (2005), and appeared in Alex Chandon's ''Cradle of Fear'' (2001). Solstice (doom Metal Band) Albums
A solstice is an event that occurs when the Sun reaches its most northerly or southerly excursion relative to the celestial equator on the celestial sphere. Two solstices occur annually, around June 21 and December 21. In many countries, the seasons of the year are determined by the solstices and the equinoxes. The term ''solstice'' can also be used in a broader sense, as the day when this occurs. The day of a solstice in either hemisphere has either the most sunlight of the year (summer solstice) or the least sunlight of the year (winter solstice) for any place other than the Equator. Alternative terms, with no ambiguity as to which hemisphere is the context, are "June solstice" and "December solstice", referring to the months in which they take place every year.
