Carlos Saavedra Lamas (November 1, 1878–May 5, 1959) was an Argentine academic and politician, and in 1936, the first Latin American Nobel Peace Prize recipient. Biography Born in Buenos Aires, Saavedra Lamas was a descendant of an early Argentine patriot. He married the daughter of president Roque Sáenz Peña. Saavedra Lamas achieved renown not only as foreign minister of Argentina for his practical work in drafting international agreements and in conducting international mediation, but also as a professor for his scholarship in the fields of labor legislation and international law. Joseph Francis Lamas (January 10, 1916 – April 22, 1996) was an American football player who played one season with the Pittsburgh Steelers of the National Football League. He played college football at Mount St. Mary's University and attended Straubenmuller Textile High School in New York, New York. Professional career Lamas played in eight games for the Pittsburgh Steelers during the 1942 season. He scored a 29-yard fumble recovery touchdown against the Detroit Lions on November 8, 1942. Coaching career Lamas entered Iona Prep in 1952. He was the assistant football coach from 1952 through 1956 and took over the head coaching job from 1957 through 1961. José Ángel Lamas (August 2, 1775 – December 10, 1814) was a Venezuelan classical musician and composer born in Caracas. He was the main representative of the classical period in colonial Venezuela. Author of the immortal sacred piece, ''Popule Meus'', his most important and best known piece. It was composed in 1801, and premiered in Caracas Cathedral during the colonial-provincial period. Lamas, away from politics and the whirlpool of the independence war, dedicated his life to music and specifically religious music.
