Lall Singh
Lall Singh ( pa, ਲਾਲ ਸਿੰਘ, Lāla sigha; 16 December 1909 – 19 November 1985) was an early Indian Test cricketer. Cricket career Lall Singh, whose full name was Lall Singh Gill, was born in Kuala Lumpur, Malaya on 16 December 1909 and died at Petaling Jaya, Kuala Lumpur on 19 November 1985. He was a member of India's team on its one-Test inaugural tour of England in 1932. He was a right-handed batsman and an outstanding fielder. In the only Test played during the tour he scored 29 in the second innings, adding 74 runs in partnership with Amar Singh in 40 minutes. During England's first innings, he ran out Frank Woolley with a magnificent pick up and throw on the opening morning. Lall Singh's was a prominent name in the matches played in Kuala Lumpur between 1926-40. In August 1931 he scored 138 for Federated Malay States against Straits Settlements at The Padang, Singapore. Frank Woolley
Frank Edward Woolley (27 May 1887 – 18 October 1978) was an English professional cricketer who played for Kent County Cricket Club between 1906 and 1938 and for the England cricket team. A genuine all-rounder, Woolley was a left-handed batsman and a left-arm bowler. He was an outstanding fielder close to the wicket and is the only non wicket-keeper to have held over 1,000 catches in a first-class career, whilst his total number of runs scored is the second highest of all time and his total number of wickets taken the 27th highest. Woolley played for England in 64 Test matches from 1909 to 1934 and is generally regarded as one of cricket's greatest all-rounders. He was a Wisden Cricketer of the Year in the 1911 edition of the almanack and was inducted into the ICC Cricket Hall of Fame in 2009. Patiala Peg
The Patiala peg is a peg of whisky in which the amount is decided based on the height between the top of the index and base of the little fingers when held parallel to one another, against the side of the standard 26.5 oz (750ml) glass bottle. This has been confused with Chinese peg at times, in which water is poured followed by liquor thus forming two distinct layers. Even major liquor companies have started selling their products in the single drink packaging of 90 ml & 120 ml bottles in India. The name originates from the city of Patiala, which was once a state known globally for the extravagant ways of its royalty and extraordinary height of its Sikh soldiers.
