Lalit Kala Akademi Fellowship
The Lalit Kala Akademi Fellowship, also known as Lalit Kala Akademi ''Ratna'' (Sanskrit ''ratna'', "gem") is an honor for the fine arts in India. It is awarded to eminent artists for their lifetime achievements in the field of visual arts by the Lalit Kala Akademi, India's National Academy of Art. It is regarded as the highest recognition and honour that can be bestowed on an artist in the country as the academy is a national body of the Government of India. The ‘Fellow,’ carries a purse-money of Rs.25,000/-, a citation and a plaque. The Fellow is honored with a portfolio about their major art works. The first elected fellow was Jamini Roy in 1955. Most recent fellowship was awarded for the year 2021 to Himmat Shah, Jyoti Bhatt and Shyam Sharma on 9 April 2022. Fine Arts
In European academic traditions, fine art is developed primarily for aesthetics or creative expression, distinguishing it from decorative art or applied art, which also has to serve some practical function, such as pottery or most metalwork. In the aesthetic theories developed in the Italian Renaissance, the highest art was that which allowed the full expression and display of the artist's imagination, unrestricted by any of the practical considerations involved in, say, making and decorating a teapot. Shiavax Chavda
Shiavax Dhanjibhoy Chavda (11 December 191418 August 1990) was an Indian painter and illustrator. Regarded as the master of movement, Chavda was a versatile artist who worked with multiple mediums. Early life and education Chavda was born in a middle class Parsi family on 11 December 1914 in Navsari, Gujarat. His father Dhanjibhoy was a trader and mother's name was Hillamai. He completed his school education in Navsari and joined the Sir J. J. School of Art in Mumbai. After passing the art diploma examination in 1935, he was awarded the Sir Ratan Tata Scholarship in 1936 for further studies and secured admission in Slade School of Fine Art in London. Under the guidance of eminent teachers such as Randolph Schwabe combined with dedicated self-study, he completed the three-year course in two years itself. The Sangeet Natak Akademi Fellowship, also known as Akademi Ratna Sadasyata, is an Indian honour for the performing arts presented by Sangeet Natak Academy. It is "the most prestigious and rare honour" conferred by the Academy and is "restricted to 40 individuals at any given time". Background In 1945, The Asiatic Society of Bengal submitted a proposal to establish a National Cultural Trust consisting of three academies: an Academy of Music, Dance, and Drama, an Academy of Letters, and an Academy of Art and Architecture. Akbar Padamsee (12 April 1928 – 6 January 2020) was an Indian artist and painter, considered one of the pioneers in modern Indian painting along with S.H. Raza, F.N. Souza and M.F. Husain. Over the years he also worked with various mediums from oil painting, plastic emulsion, water colour, sculpture, printmaking, to computer graphics, and photography.
