Lakeland Senior High School (Lakeland, Florida)
Lakeland Senior High School is the oldest public high school in Lakeland, Florida, United States. It is part of Polk County Public Schools. Lakeland Senior High School was the original high school in the city. It also shares its campus with Lois Cowles Harrison Center for the Visual and Performing Arts. Harrison students attend academic classes at Lakeland Senior High School. Athletics The school's athletic teams are known as the Lakeland Dreadnaughts. Lakeland's football team has won eight state championships, in 1986, 1996, 1999, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2018 and 2022. The Dreadnaughts have played their home football games at Thomas W. Lawton Chiles
Lawton Mainor Chiles Jr. (April 3, 1930 – December 12, 1998) was an American politician who served as the 41st governor of Florida from 1991 until his death in 1998. A member of the Democratic Party, he previously served as a United States senator from Florida from 1971 to 1989. A Korean War veteran, Chiles later returned to Florida for law school and eventually opened his own private practice in 1955. Three years later, Chiles entered politics with a successful bid for the Florida House of Representatives in 1958, as a member of the Democratic Party. Joshua Timothy Lucas (born November 5, 1990) is an American professional baseball pitcher for the Gateway Grizzlies of the Frontier League. He has played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the St. Louis Cardinals, Oakland Athletics, and Baltimore Orioles. Miss America
Miss America is an annual competition that is open to women from the United States between the ages of 17 and 25. Originating in 1921 as a "bathing beauty revue", the contest is now judged on competitors' talent performances and interviews. As of 2018, there is no longer a swimsuit portion to the contest, or consideration of physical appearance. Neva Jane Langley Fickling (January 25, 1933 – November 18, 2012) was an American beauty pageant queen. Biography Langley was born in Lakeland, Florida. As a college sophomore she transferred to Wesleyan College in Macon, Georgia, where she was a member of Alpha Delta Pi sorority. While attending that college she became Miss Macon, Miss Georgia, and then Miss America 1953. Julia Frances Newbern-Langford (April 4, 1913 – July 11, 2005) was an American singer and actress who was popular during the Golden Age of Radio and made film and television appearances for over two decades. Grady Judd (born March 10, 1954) is the sheriff of Polk County, Florida. He has served in this position since 2005. Early life and education Grady Judd was born in Lakeland, Florida, in 1954. He earned both bachelor's and master's degrees from Rollins College, and graduated from the FBI National Academy. He was awarded two honorary doctorates. Lee McLeod Janzen (born August 28, 1964) is an American professional golfer who is best known for winning the U.S. Open twice in 1993 and 1998. Andrew Scott Hutchison (born August 22, 1990) is an American professional baseball pitcher for the Toronto Blue Jays organization. He has played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Blue Jays, Pittsburgh Pirates, Philadelphia Phillies, Texas Rangers and the Detroit Tigers.
