Lake Winona Research Natural Area
Winona Lake Research Natural Area is a area of old-growth forest in Saline County, in the U.S. state of Arkansas. It is located in the Winona Ranger District of the Ouachita National Forest, on the south end of the Fourche Mountains, near Jessieville, Arkansas. The area was designated a National Natural Landmark in 1977. The land is owned by the U.S. Federal Government and is administered by the USDA Forest Service. Winona Lake is a forested area that is dominated by a shortleaf pine overstory. The main source of water to Winona Lake is Alum Fork Creek. Winona Lake is a town in Wayne Township, Kosciusko County, in the U.S. state of Indiana, and the major suburb of Warsaw. The population was 4,908 at the 2010 census. Geography Winona Lake is located at (41.220818, -85.817118). It is now contiguous to Warsaw, the two towns having run into each other as they have expanded. According to the 2010 census, Winona Lake has a total area of , of which (or 84.92%) is land and (or 15.08%) is water. History Winona Lake is best known for the lake it is named after and built on, although the lake was originally known as Eagle Lake. Winona is a city in and the county seat of Winona County, in the state of Minnesota. Located in bluff country on the Mississippi River, its most noticeable physical landmark is Sugar Loaf. The city is named after legendary figure Winona, who some sources claimed was the first-born daughter of Chief Wapasha of the Dakota people. The population was 25,948 at the 2020 census. History The city of Winona began on the site of a Native American village named Keoxa. The seat of the Wapasha dynasty, Keoxa was home to a Mdewakanton band of the eastern Sioux. European immigrants settled the area in 1851 and laid out the town into lots in 1852 and 1853. New Hampton is a town in Belknap County, New Hampshire, United States. The population was 2,377 at the 2020 census. A winter sports resort area, New Hampton is home to George Duncan State Forest and to the New Hampton School, a private preparatory school established in 1821. The primary village in town, where 373 people resided at the 2020 census, is defined as the New Hampton census-designated place, and is located along New Hampshire Route 132, just south of its intersection with Route 104.
