Lake Washington High School
Lake Washington High School is a four-year public high school in Kirkland, Washington, a suburb east of Seattle. It is one of four main high schools in the Lake Washington School District, with an enrollment capacity of approximately 1,500 students. Located in the Rose Hill neighborhood east of downtown Kirkland, LWHS competes in the KingCo 3A athletic conference; the school colors are purple and white and its mascot is the Kangaroo. History and facilities Kirkland High School opened in 1922, northwest of downtown Kirkland at the site of Heritage Park. With the formation of the Lake Washington School District in 1944, the high school was given its present name. It moved to its present location in 1949, with doors opening in January 1950. The former building became the junior high and was later known as Terrace Hall; it burned in a spectacular fire in 1973. Kirkland is a city in King County, Washington, United States. A suburb east of Seattle, its population was 92,175 in the 2020 U.S. census which made it the sixth largest city in the county and the twelfth largest in the state. The city's downtown waterfront has restaurants, art galleries, a performing arts center, public parks, beaches, and a collection of public art, primarily bronze sculptures. Jill Bakken
Jill Bakken (born January 25, 1977) is an American Olympic bobsledder who has competed since 1994. As the driver, she and partner Vonetta Flowers won the gold medal in Bobsleigh at the 2002 Winter Olympics for the U.S. Bakken's best Bobsleigh World Cup season finish was second in the two-woman event in 1999–2000. Bakken was a Specialist in the Utah Army National Guard and sponsored by the Army World Class Athlete Program at the time she won gold. Bakken is a graduate of Lake Washington High School and an alumna of Eastern Washington University, transferring there in 2005. She has also attended the University of Utah and Oregon State University, playing one season of soccer as a defender at the latter. John Fiala
John Charles Fiala (born November 25, 1973) is a former American football linebacker who played from 1998 to 2002 with the Pittsburgh Steelers of the National Football League. Fiala attended Lake Washington High School in Kirkland, Washington, and then the University of Washington. He was drafted by the Miami Dolphins in the sixth round of the 1997 NFL Draft, but did not play for the Dolphins. Fiala signed with the Steelers as a free agent in 1998. From 1999 to 2002, he was a special teams Captain (sports), captain for the Steelers. The Montreal Expos (french: link=no, Les Expos de Montréal) were a Canadian professional baseball team based in Montreal, Quebec. The Expos were the first Major League Baseball (MLB) franchise located outside the United States. They played in the National League (NL) East division from 1969 until 2004. Craig Douglas Caskey (born December 11, 1949) is a former Major League Baseball pitcher. Caskey played for the Montreal Expos in . Career Caskey attended Lake Washington High School and the University of Puget Sound. He was drafted four times, first by the Houston Astros in the 1969 January Draft. He did not sign. In 1971, the San Francisco Giants selected Caskey in the 10th round of the draft. He again did not sign. In 1972, he was drafted twice, first in the January draft by the California Angels, then in the first round of the June Secondary draft by the Montreal Expos. He signed with Montreal and played for both the West Palm Beach Expos and the Jamestown Falcons in 1972. He began the 1973 season with the Peninsula Whips of the International League. Dan Skipper (born September 20, 1994) is an American football offensive tackle for the Detroit Lions of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football at Arkansas. High school career Skipper was born in Arvada, Colorado, a suburb of Denver. He played football at Ralston Valley High School, where he earned 5A all-state recognition as a senior.
