__NOTOC__ Lake Lucerne (german: Vierwaldstättersee, literally "Lake of the four forested settlements" (in English usually translated as ''forest cantons''), french: lac des Quatre-Cantons, it, lago dei Quattro Cantoni) is a lake in central Switzerland and the fourth largest in the country. Geography The lake has a complicated shape, with several sharp bends and four arms. It starts in the south–north bound Reuss Valley between steep cliffs above the ''Urnersee'' from Flüelen towards Brunnen to the north before it makes a sharp bend to the west where it continues into the ''Gersauer Becken''. Even further west of it is the ''Buochser Bucht'', but the lake sharply turns north again through the narrow opening between the ''Unter Nas'' (lower nose) of the Bürgenstock to the west and the ''Ober Nas'' (upper nose) of the Rigi to the east to reach the ''Vitznauer Bucht''. Lake Lucerne is located near Crandon in Forest County, Wisconsin, United States. There is a boat landing on the southeast shore of the lake and a restaurant (Waters Edge) on the west shore. This restaurant performs water ski showduring the summer months. Summer homes and cottages surround the lake. There is a large, uninterrupted stretch of water on the north half of the lake. On the southern half, there is a large cluster of islands, the largest having a sand bar that is popular with swimmers. Lake Luzerne, formerly the Town of Fairfield and then Luzerne, is a town in southern Warren County, New York, United States. The town is located within the Adirondack Park. The town is part of the Glens Falls Metropolitan Statistical Area. Lake Luzerne is west of the city of Glens Falls. The town population was 3,347 at the 2010 census. History The area received its first permanent European settlers around 1770. The town of Lake Luzerne was set off from the town of Queensbury in 1792 as the Town of Fairfield. The town is named after Anne-César, Chevalier de la Luzerne, who guaranteed a personal loan to provide food to American revolutionary troops and who served as a French Minister to the new country. Lake Luzerne is the primary hamlet and a census-designated place (CDP) within the town of Lake Luzerne, Warren County, New York, United States. As of the 2010 census, the population was 1,227, out of 3,347 residents in the entire town of Lake Luzerne. Before that, the community was part of the Lake Luzerne-Hadley census-designated place. Lake Luzerne CDP is in southern Warren County, in the western part of its town. It is named for Lake Luzerne, a water body on the east side of the hamlet. The community is bordered to the west by the Hudson River, across which is the town of Hadley in Saratoga County. The Luzerne Music Center is on the east side of the lake. New York State Route 9N passes through Lake Luzerne, leading northeast to Lake George and south to Saratoga Springs.
