The Rural Municipality of Lajord No. 128 ( 2016 population: ) is a rural municipality (RM) in the Canadian province of Saskatchewan within Census Division No. 6 and Division No. 2. It is located in the southeast portion of the province. History The RM of Lajord No. 128 incorporated as a rural municipality on December 13, 1909. ;Heritage properties There are three historical buildings located within the RM. *''Church and Grotto in St. Peter's Colony'' (now called St. Peter's Colony) - Constructed in 1905 as a church and shrine of our Lady of Lourdes. *''Kronau Cemetery Site'' (formerly called Bethlehem Lutheran Church Cemetery; and now called the Kronau Bethlehem Heritage Cemetery) - Constructed in 1896, by early German-Russian Lutheran homesteaders. A rural municipality is created by the Minister of Municipal Relations by ministerial order via section 49 of ''The Municipalities Act''. Saskatchewan has 296 rural municipalities, which are located in the central and southern portions of the province. They had a cumulative population of and an average population of in the 2016 Census of Population. In most cases in Saskatchewan, a Hamlet (place), hamlet is an unincorporated community with at least five occupied dwellings situated on separate lots and at least 10 separate lots, the majority of which are an average size of less than one acre. Saskatchewan has three different types of unincorporated hamlets including generic "hamlets", "special service areas" and "organized hamlets". Kronau, Saskatchewan
Kronau is a hamlet in the Canadian province of Saskatchewan located 28 km (17.5 miles) south east of Regina on Highway 33 in the R.M. of Lajord No. 128, Saskatchewan. Listed as a designated place by Statistics Canada, the hamlet had a population of 209 in the Canada 2006 Census. History The area of Kronau was first settled by German-Russians from near the Black Sea and German-Americans from the northern United States during the late 19th and early 20th century. Heritage sites *St. Peter's Church and Grotto at St. Peter's Colony is 12 km east of Kronau. The Catholic church was completed in 1904 next to a cemetery established in 1892. The grotto built in 1917 by Father Henry Metzger became a pilgrimage site. Father Metzger, a noted artist, also painted the Stations of the Cross in the church. The 2016 Canadian census was an enumeration of Canadian residents, which counted a population of 35,151,728, a change from its 2011 population of 33,476,688. The census, conducted by Statistics Canada, was Canada's seventh quinquennial census. The official census day was May 10, 2016. Census web access codes began arriving in the mail on May 2, 2016.
