Lai Sun () is a football team which played in Hong Kong First Division League from 1988 to 1991. In 1988, the team borrowed the HKFA membership from Double Flower and entered the league by the name of Lai Sun Double Flower. In the following season, it bought in the HKFA membership from Po Chai Pills and played under the name Lai Sun. The team quit the league in 1991 and returned the membership to Po Chai Pills. The Hong Kong First Division League () is the second-highest division in the Hong Kong football league system. Established in 1908, it is the third oldest in Asia. The league was formerly the highest division in Hong Kong until the formation of the Hong Kong Premier League in 2014. Since 1908, a total of 29 clubs have been crowned champions of the Hong Kong football system. South China are the most successful club, having won 41 times since their first participation in 1941. Competition format Each team plays the other teams in the division twice, one home and one away game. The ticket profits go to the home team. If there are two matches in the same stadium on the day, the profits are shared between the two home teams. The Hong Kong Football Association Limited (), often abbreviated to the HKFA, is the governing body of association football in Hong Kong. Its current chairman is Pui Kwan Kay and its Chief Executive Officer is Joaquin Tam. History The HKFA was established in 1914. Double Flower Football Association () is a Hong Kong football club which plays in the Hong Kong Second Division. The club was very successful in 1990s in the then top-tier First Division under the name Instant-Dict (). Major events * 1981–82 season: The club finished second in the Third Division and were promoted to Second Division. * 1984–85 season: The club finished third in the Second Division and were promoted to First Division, then the top league in Hong Kong football. * 1985–86 season: The club faced Seiko in their First Division debut, in which they led 3-2 at the beginning of the second half but then conceded 5 goals and lost the match 3-7. Hong Kong Viceroy Cup () was a association football, football competition in Hong Kong held by British American Tobacco. Started in 1969, it was the first football competition in Hong Kong which allowed commercial Sponsor (commercial), sponsorship. Together with Hong Kong First Division League, First Division League, Hong Kong FA Cup, FA Cup and Hong Kong Senior Shield, Senior Shield, they were considered as "Big Four" competitions in Hong Kong football circle. Since July 1999, the Hong Kong government has forbidden the sponsorship of sports events by tobacco firms, although the Chinese name of it suggests "Hong Kong Governor, Governor", which was the leader of British Hong Kong colony before Hong Kong Handover in 1997. Hong Kong FA Cup () is a knockout cup competition in Hong Kong football, run by and named after The Hong Kong Football Association. The first edition of the competition was held in 1975, before then the cup was known as the Golden Jubilee Cup. The current season is the 45th edition of the event. 14 different teams have won the cup with 10-time champions South China being the most successful. In the first three years, the semi-finals and the finals were two-legged events. If the aggregate result was drawn, there would be extra time after the second leg. Drawn ties after extra time would be settled by a replay. However, this practice was abandoned in 1977.
