Laguna Honda Reservoir
Laguna Honda is a reservoir on the southwest shoulder of Mount Sutro in San Francisco, California, U.S.A. History In 1865, the Spring Valley Water Works built a long redwood pipeline to transport drinking water from Pilarcitos Canyon to this reservoir. The 1906 San Francisco earthquake destroyed the pipeline. The lake and the surrounding land are now managed by the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission. Mount Sutro
Mount Sutro is a hill in central San Francisco, California. It was originally named Mount Parnassus. Geography The low mountain is in elevation. Mount Sutro is one of the many named hills within San Francisco, and among its original "Seven Hills". Most of Mount Sutro is owned by the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). A parcel, including the summit, is protected as the Mount Sutro Open Space Reserve by UCSF, and open to the public. Sutro Tower, a large television and radio broadcasting tower for the San Francisco Bay Area and very visible City landmark, is not on Mount Sutro. 1906 San Francisco Earthquake
At 05:12 Pacific Standard Time on Wednesday, April 18, 1906, the coast of Northern California was struck by a major earthquake with an estimated moment magnitude of 7.9 and a maximum Mercalli intensity of XI (''Extreme''). High-intensity shaking was felt from Eureka on the North Coast to the Salinas Valley, an agricultural region to the south of the San Francisco Bay Area.
