Lafferty ( ga, Ó Laithbheartaigh) is a sept of Irish people, Irish Gaels in County Donegal and County Tyrone, belonging to the Cenél nEógain of the Northern Uí Néill. They are a branch of the O'Neill dynasty, O'Neill family and are named after one of the earlier Kings of Ailech called Flaithbertach mac Muirchertaig meic Néil. They are not to be confused with the O'Flaherty family of Connacht. Other anglicised versions of the name are O'Laverty, O'Lafferty and Laverty. Jackson Lafferty (born October 9, 1969) is a Canadian territorial level politician. Early life Lafferty attended High School in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories. He received his post secondary education at Red Deer College and is currently enrolled at Athabasca University where he is completing a Management Degree. Political career Lafferty ran for a seat in the Northwest Territories Legislature in a by-election held in the electoral district of North Slave on July 15, 2005. He won the by-election in a closely contested race over two other candidates. He defeated former North Slave MLA Henry Zoe in the 2007 Northwest Territories general election. Sam Lafferty (born March 6, 1995) is an American professional ice hockey forward for the Toronto Maple Leafs of the National Hockey League (NHL). Born and raised in Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania, Lafferty attended Hollidaysburg Area High School before a spot opened at Deerfield Academy in Massachusetts. During his time at Deerfield, Lafferty tallied 38 goals and 57 assists for a total of 95 points in 74 games. Michael McCormack Lafferty (born May 20, 1948) is a former World Cup alpine ski racer from the United States. He specialized in downhill and had two World Cup podiums and eleven top ten finishes, all in downhill. His best finish in the World Cup season standings was in 1972: third in downhill and ninth overall. Early years Born in Eugene, Oregon, Lafferty was the third and youngest son of Paul and Jean Lafferty.
