Lady Samantha (album)
''Lady Samantha'' is a British only compilation album by DJM Records of songs recorded by Elton John. Originally released in cassette and 8-track tape formats in 1974, the album featured rarities and B-sides from the earliest days of John's career. It would eventually be issued on vinyl in 1980 by DJM and finally on CD in 1988. (A remastered CD by PolyGram appeared in 1998.) Elton John
Sir Elton Hercules John (born Reginald Kenneth Dwight; 25 March 1947) is a British singer, pianist and composer. The song initially appeared on the 1970 album ''Elton John'', and was released in the spring of 1970 as the LP's first single. It was John's third U.S. hit, and his second to reach Top 40 after the breakthrough success of "Your Song". It was released on 17 January 1969 as his second single, six months before his first album, ''Empty Sky'', came out. It appeared on its 1995 reissue as a bonus track. Performances Recorded in December 1968 along with its B-side, "All Across the Havens," it was performed on several radio broadcasts including John's first BBC radio airing on 28 October 1968, with Caleb Quaye on guitar but forgotten afterward. Despite the performances, John never played it in concert. Chart performance and releases John's first single, "I've Been Loving You," did not fare well on the British charts. This song went the same way. It was praised by critics, and yielded what producer Gus Dudgeon, who became a fan of the song upon hearing it on the radio, later called "a turntable hit." ''Friends'', released in 1971, is the fourth official album release by Elton John. It was a project John and Bernie Taupin took on before their breakout success in the US, and served as the soundtrack album for the ''Friends'' film released in the same year. It was certified Gold in April 1971 by the RIAA. It became John's third gold record in as many months in that market (following the albums ''Elton John'' in February and ''Tumbleweed Connection'' in March). The title track was a minor hit in the US (#34 on the pop chart) despite the film's poor performance. The album also received a 1972 Grammy nomination for Best Original Score Written for a Motion Picture. The rights to the soundtrack are now with Universal Music Group, which shares ownership of John's music with him, and which also owns the Paramount Records catalogue. The grey seal (''Halichoerus grypus'') is found on both shores of the North Atlantic Ocean. In Latin Halichoerus grypus means "hook-nosed sea pig". It is a large pinniped, seal of the family (biology), family Phocidae, which are commonly referred to as "true seals" or "earless seals".
