Ladies' British Open Amateur Stroke Play Championship
Ladies' British Open Amateur Stroke Play Championship was founded in 1969 by the Ladies' Golf Union (now merged into The R&A) of Great Britain. A stroke play tournament over 72 holes, it was discontinued by the R&A after the 2017 tournament won by Linn Grant in favour of a new Girls U16 Amateur Championship. Notably, in 2000 Rebecca Hudson won the Ladies' British Open Amateur Championship match play title as well as the Ladies' British Open Amateur Stroke Play Championship. Leona Maguire, at age 16, was the youngest player to win the event. Olivia Mehaffey (born 1998) is a professional golfer from Northern Ireland. Amateur career Mehaffey enjoyed a very successful amateur career and reached a rank of No. 5 in the World Amateur Golf Rankings and No. 2 in the European Amateur Golf Rankings. In 2014, she won the Irish Girls' U18 Open Strokeplay, in 2015 the Helen Holm Scottish Women's Open Championship, and she won the Welsh Ladies Open Stroke Play Championship in both 2015 and 2016. Prestwick Golf Club is a golf course in Prestwick, South Ayrshire, Scotland. It is approximately southwest of Scotland's largest city, Glasgow. Prestwick is a classic links course, built on the rolling sandy land between the beach and the hinterland. The course is near the Prestwick airport, and some holes run along railway tracks on the eastern side of the course. The Open Championship originated at Prestwick Golf Club, and was played there 24 times between 1860 and 1925. History Golf had been played over the links at Prestwick for many years before the club was formally organized in 1851.
