Lacken Celtic GFC
Lacken are a Gaelic football club from County Cavan in Ireland. They are affiliated to Cavan GAA. History Lacken Celtic GFC was formed in the 1890s by men who returned from working overseas in Scotland. The club got its name in honour of the Glasgow Celtic Soccer Club and the team wore the green and white jerseys synonymous with the Celtic club. At the time, the home pitch was known as "The Green" and was located on the banks of the River Erne (beside Scarvey Bridge, Corlismore). The club did go out of existence however for a few years before being reformed in 1907. 1908 Senior Championship The GAA was only in existence for 24 years when Lacken won their first and only senior championship. The County Championship of 1908 began in September and was run on league basis. The county was divided into two divisions East and West. Gaelic Football
Gaelic football ( ga, Peil Ghaelach; short name '), commonly known as simply Gaelic, GAA or Football is an Irish team sport. It is played between two teams of 15 players on a rectangular grass pitch. The objective of the sport is to score by kicking or punching the ball into the other team's goals (3 points) or between two upright posts above the goals and over a crossbar above the ground (1 point). Players advance the football up the field with a combination of carrying, bouncing, kicking, hand-passing, and soloing (dropping the ball and then toe-kicking the ball upward into the hands). In the game, two types of scores are possible: points and goals. A point is awarded for kicking or hand-passing the ball over the crossbar , signalled by the umpire raising a white flag. A goal is awarded for kicking the ball under the crossbar into the net (the ball cannot be hand-passed into the goal), signalled by the umpire raising a green flag. Cavan GAA
The Cavan County Board ( ga, Cumann Lúthchleas Gael Coiste Chontae an Chabháin) or Cavan GAA is one of the 32 county boards of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) in Ireland, and is responsible for the administration of Gaelic games in County Cavan. The County Board is responsible for preparing the Cavan county teams in the various Gaelic sporting codes; football, hurling, camogie and handball. Mullahoran GFC
Mullahoran GAA is a Gaelic games club from County Cavan in Ireland. Founded in 1888, it is affiliated to Cavan GAA. The club's nickname is ''the Dreadnoughts''. It is a rural club located in the parish of Mullahoran in south Cavan, approximately 10 miles from Cavan town. Gaelic football, rounders, hurling and handball are played at the club and numerous county and national honours have been won in the past in these codes. Gaelic football Mullahoran have the third-best record in the Cavan Championship with 12 wins, the first being in 1935 and the most recent in 2012. Cornafean is a Gaelic Athletic Association club based in the rural parishes of Killeshandra and Kilmore, in County Cavan, Ireland. The club plays Gaelic Football and competes in Cavan GAA competitions. Cornafean is the most successful club in Cavan, having won 20 Cavan Senior Football Championships. Lavey are a Gaelic football club from County Cavan in Ireland. They are affiliated with Cavan GAA. The parish of Lavey (formerly also transcribed as "Lavay" or "Lowey"; from the Gaelic "Leamhach", a place producing elm trees") is in the barony of Upper Loughtee, County Cavan, between Stradone and Ballyjamesduff, near Virginia. History Lavey won the Cavan Junior Football Championship for the very first time in 1950, but the final wasn't played until 1951. Raymond Galligan
Raymond Galligan (born 30 May 1987) is an Irish Gaelic footballer who plays for the Cavan county team. He plays his club football with Lacken. Playing career Club Galligan has played with the Lacken club at all levels. Galligan made his club debut in 2002 and was on the Lacken team that faced Drung in the final of the Cavan Intermediate Football Championship in 2004, and scored a point in their 1-9 to 1-8 win. On 7 October 2012, Galligan captained Lacken in the Intermediate final against Cootehill. Galligan scored 1-5 from full forward as the game ended in a draw. In the replay on 13 October, Galligan scored two points in the 3-10 to 1-9 win, winning his second Intermediate title. Thomas Galligan (born 15 September 1996) is an Irish Gaelic footballer who plays for the Cavan county team. He plays his club football with Lacken. Playing career College Galligan went to school at St Patrick's College in Cavan. Galligan starred in the 2015 season as St Pat's reached their first MacRory Cup final since 1975. On 17 March 2015, Galligan started in midfield in the final against St Patrick's Academy, Dungannon. Galligan scored two points as Cavan were winners by 2–12 to 0–8. He also received the man of the match award. Galligan played in the Hogan Cup semi-final against PBS Chorca Dhuibhne, where St Pat's suffered a three-point loss. The Cavan Senior Football Championship is an annual Gaelic Athletic Association club competition between the top Cavan Gaelic football clubs. It was first competed for in 1888. The winners get the Oliver Plunkett Cup and qualifies to represent their county in the Ulster Club Championship and in turn, go on to the All-Ireland Senior Club Football Championship. It was first competed for in 1915, before a lapse prior to being revived in 1966. The winners qualify to represent their county in the Ulster Intermediate Club Football Championship and in turn, go on to the All-Ireland Intermediate Club Football Championship.
