Labour Campaign For Trans Rights
The Labour Campaign for Trans Rights (LCTR) is a British pressure group within the Labour Party, founded in February 2020. During a leadership election that month, the group issued a 12-point programme which called for the expulsion of Labour members who belong to what they described as hate groups, or which expressed what they said were bigoted, transphobic views. Two of the groups they described as hate groups were Woman's Place UK and the LGB Alliance, which have been described by the LCTR as " trans-exclusionist". This was criticised by Mark Serwotka, General Secretary of the Public and Commercial Services Union (PCS), and led to the #expelme tag among some Labour members. The pledge was supported by candidates Rebecca Long-Bailey and Lisa Nandy, but not by Keir Starmer, who later became leader of the party. Mark Serwotka
Mark Henryk Serwotka (; born 26 April 1963) is General Secretary of the Public and Commercial Services Union (PCS), the largest trade union representing British civil servants. He was President of the Trades Union Congress (TUC) for 2019. Early life Serwotka was adopted by a Polish-born father and a Welsh mother and brought up in Aberdare. Career In 1979, aged sixteen, he joined the Civil Service as a benefits clerk, joining the union on his first day. He became a union representative in 1980 and a personal case officer in 1995. In the 2000 election for General Secretary, he faced two rivals: Hugh Lanning of the Membership First faction and the incumbent Barry Reamsbottom of the National Moderate Group. LGBT+ Labour, the Labour Campaign for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Rights, is a socialist society (Labour Party), socialist society related to the Labour Party (UK), Labour Party in the United Kingdom. Originally called the Gay Labour Group, the purpose of this organisation is to campaign within the Labour Party and wider Labour movement to promote the rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) peoples, and to encourage members of the LGBT community to support the Labour Party. 2015 marked the 40th anniversary of the organisation. Keir Starmer
Sir Keir Rodney Starmer (; born 2 September 1962) is a British politician and barrister who has served as Leader of the Opposition and Leader of the Labour Party since 2020. He has been Member of Parliament (MP) for Holborn and St Pancras since 2015. He was previously Director of Public Prosecutions from 2008 to 2013. Ideologically, Starmer has been described as being on the soft left within the Labour Party. Starmer was born in London and raised in Surrey, where he attended the selective state Reigate Grammar School, which became an independent school while he was a student. Lisa Eva Nandy (born 9 August 1979) is a British politician serving as Shadow Secretary of State for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities since 2021. A member of the Labour Party, she has been Member of Parliament (MP) for Wigan since 2010. Rebecca Roseanne Long-Bailey (' Long; born 22 September 1979), is a British politician and former solicitor serving as Member of Parliament (MP) for Salford and Eccles since 2015. The Public and Commercial Services Union (PCS) is the sixth largest trade union in the United Kingdom. Most of its members work in UK government departments and other public bodies. History The union was founded in 1998 by the merger of the Public Services, Tax and Commerce Union (which mostly represented the executive grades of the Civil Service) and the Civil and Public Services Association (mostly representing the clerical grades). LGB Alliance
The LGB Alliance is a British advocacy group founded in the UK in 2019, in opposition to the policies of LGBT rights charity Stonewall (charity), Stonewall on transgender issues. Its founders were Bev Jackson, Kate Harris, Allison Bailey, Malcolm Clark and Ann Sinnott. It has said that lesbians are facing "extinction" because of the "disproportionate" focus on transgender identities in schools. It has opposed a ban on conversion therapy for trans people in the UK, gender transitioning, gender-affirming care including Puberty blocker, puberty blockers for children reporting gender dysphoria, and Gender Recognition Act 2004, gender recognition reform.
