La Réole XIII
La Réole XIII are a semi-professional Rugby league club based in La Réole, Gironde in the Aquitaine region in the south of France. They were founded in 1938. From 2016-17 they will play in the National Division 2 Aquitaine Regional Competition. The club plays its home matches at the Stade Municipal La Reole and are currently coached by New Zealander Scott Hurrell History La Reole XIII were founded in 1938 and joined the French rugby league as an amateur club. In their first season they were crowned champions of the ''France 2nd Category'' which was the 3rd tier, now called the National Division 1. Their next trophy was the ''National Cup'' nowadays called the Coupe Falcou which they won in 1954. Another title triumph soon arrived in 1957, this time winning the top competition for amateur clubs the ''French Amateur Championship''. Coupe Falcou
The Albert Falcou Cup (french: Coupe Albert-Falcou), also called Albert Falcou French Cup (french: Coupe de France Albert-Falcou), is an annual knock-out competition organised by the Fédération Française de Rugby à XIII for amateur rugby league clubs in France. History The competition was introduced in 1937 and was originally known as the French Amateur Cup. The inaugural winners were the short-lived La Rochelle club (during World War II the club was forced to merge with the city's rugby union club, Atlantique Stade Rochelais, by the Vichy Government of the time). When rugby league was legalised again at the end of the war, the cup was re-instituted as the National Cup. This incarnation was contested between 1945 and 1962. Two now-defunct clubs dominated the post war years; the Biganos-based Facture XIII won the cup five times and Lavardac XIII (from the eponymous Lot-et-Garonne town), which folded in the 1980s, won it on four occasions. Elite One Championship
Elite 1 is the top level rugby league competition in France, sanctioned by the French Rugby League Federation. The season runs from September to April, which is in contrast to the majority of other major domestic rugby league competitions worldwide. The clubs play each other home and away then they enter into a play-off series culminating with a Grand Final. The competition is the continuation and first division of the French Rugby League Championship, which has been in existence since 1934, and is generally regarded as the third most important domestic championship in the world, behind Australia's National Rugby League and the transnational European Super League, and ahead of the NZRL National Competition, Balkan Super League, Rhino Cup and USA Rugby League.
