La Ronde (amusement Park)
La Ronde () is an amusement park in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, built as the entertainment complex for Expo 67, the 1967 World Fair. Today, it is operated by Six Flags under an emphyteutic lease with the City of Montreal, which expires in 2065. It is the largest amusement park in Quebec and second largest in Canada. It occupies on the northern tip of Saint Helen's Island–a man-made extension to the island in the vicinity of where the small ''Ronde Island'' had once been, and the origin of the park's name. The park hosts the annual Montreal Fireworks Festival, an international fireworks competition. La Ronde, and Frontier City in Oklahoma City, are the only two company parks not officially branded as Six Flags parks. A La Ronde
A La Ronde is an 18th-century 16-sided house located near Lympstone, Exmouth, Devon, England, and in the ownership of the National Trust. The house was built for two spinster cousins, Jane and Mary Parminter. It is a Grade I listed building, as are the adjacent Point-In-View chapel, school and almshouses, together with a manse, which were also built by the cousins. The gardens are Grade II listed in the National Register of Historic Parks and Gardens. History The Parminter family, which could be traced back in North Devon as far back as 1600, had acquired considerable wealth as merchants. Everald La Ronde (born 24 January 1963) is an English former footballer who played as a defender. La Ronde started his career at West Ham where he was captain of the team which won the 1981 Youth Cup Final. He played only 7 times for West Ham before signing for Bournemouth in September 1983. Arguably his most notable game for Bournemouth came on 7 January 1984 when he was part of the team which knocked Manchester United out of the FA Cup. After an injury hit period amounting to only 24 games he completed a loan spell with Peterborough United before problems with his knee, stomach and hernia forced him to retire. Georges Sylvain
Georges Sylvain (1866–1925) was a Haitian poet, lawyer and diplomat. Born in Puerto Plata (city), Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic, Sylvain studied in his native city before attending school in Paris and receiving a law degree. After returning to Haiti, he founded a law school and two periodicals, ''La Patrie'' and, in 1922, ''l'Union Patriotique''. He was a member of the literary society ''La Ronde (literary society), La Ronde'' and was involved in other literary activities. He published ''Confidences et Mélancolies'' (1901), a compilation of twenty-nine poems. ''La Ronde'' (also known by its original German title, ''Reigen'') is a play in which ten people form an unwitting interpersonal circle with their secret, sexual relationships. It was written by Arthur Schnitzler in 1897 and was controversial at that time. It scrutinizes the sexual morality and class ideology of its day through successive encounters between pairs of characters (before or after a sexual encounter). By choosing characters across all levels of society, the play offers social commentary on how sexual contact transgresses class boundaries. Printed privately in 1900, it was not publicly performed until 1920, when it provoked strong reactions.
