''La Población'' is the seventh studio album by Chilean singer-songwriter Víctor Jara, released in 1972 by DICAP, and Odeon labels. Composition The album concept is "based on the history and life of Santiago's shantytown communities", and focuses on the poverty of the Chilean camps and workers. It also "gives a central role to children in the founding of this new popular urban space", "brilliantly described the set of practices and imaginaries that surrounded the emergence of the camps", and "has a correlation in the formal aspect of the album, where it is possible to listen to tunes, cuecas and marches, among other rhythms that account for the melodies that accompany different social identities." Seven tracks were written by Jara and the Chilean writer Alejandro Sieveking, who had met in 1956 and were classmates at the University of Chile until 1960. Víctor Jara
Víctor Lidio Jara Martínez (; 28 September 1932 – 16 September 1973) was a Chilean teacher, theater director, poet, singer-songwriter and Communist political activist. He developed Chilean theater by directing a broad array of works, ranging from locally produced plays to world classics, as well as the experimental work of playwrights such as Ann Jellicoe. He also played a pivotal role among neo-folkloric musicians who established the ''Nueva canción chilena'' (New Chilean Song) movement. This led to an uprising of new sounds in popular music during the administration of President Salvador Allende. Jara was arrested by the Chilean military shortly after the 11 September 1973 coup led by Augusto Pinochet, which overthrew Allende. He was tortured during interrogations and ultimately shot dead, and his body was thrown out on the street of a shantytown in Santiago. Bélgica Castro Sierra (; 6 March 1921 – 6 March 2020) was a Chilean stage, film, and television actress. During her career she participated in more than 100 plays. She also acted in numerous Chilean films, including ' (1944) by Jorge Délano and '' The Good Life'' (2008) by Andrés Wood. Under the direction of Ricardo Larraín she participated in '' Chile puede'' (2008), where she played a Russian scientist, a role for which she received the Paoa Award of the Viña del Mar International Film Festival for Best National Lead Actress and the APES Award for Best Supporting Actress. ''Manifiesto'' is the ninth solo studio album from Chilean songwriter Víctor Jara.The record was released posthumously after his brutal torture and murder in 1973. It used a base the songs written for the album '' Tiempos que cambian (Times that change)'', that was left unfinished. In the album, the Chilean group Inti-Illimani and the Chilean musician Patricio Castillo participate. Patricio Castillo belonged, until 1971, to Quilapayún, another famous Chilean band, which he re-entered definitively several years later. Most of the songs were composed by Víctor Jara, with the exception of ''«Aquí me quedo»'' (Here I stay), composed with Patricio Castillo. ''Pongo en tus manos abiertas'' ("I Put Into Your Open Hands") is the fourth studio album by Chilean singer-songwriter Víctor Jara, released in June 1969. It was the third album released by the Jota Jota record label (later known as DICAP), established by the Communist Youth to release Nueva canción chilena artist recordings such as Quilapayún, who also collaborated in the musical accompaniment of some tracks. For this album, Jara composed and sang more politicized songs than his predecessors, with some like "A Luis Emilio Recabarren" in which he praises the founder of the Communist Party of Chile or "Preguntas por Puerto Montt" in which he condemns the massacre perpetrated in that city and the interior minister Edmundo Pérez Zujovic. Violeta Isabel Cereceda Parra (born 29 September 1939), better known as Isabel Parra, is a famous Chilean singer-songwriter and interpreter of Latin American musical folklore. Early years Parra was born in Chile in 1939 and began her career in music at the age of 13 when she made her first recording with her world-renowned mother, the folklorist Violeta Parra. Alejandro Sieveking Campano (5 September 1934 – 5 March 2020) was a Chilean playwright, theatre director and actor. Career Sieveking was born in the Chilean city of Rengo (in the O'Higgins Region) on 5 September 1934. He performed as an actor on theatrical productions by ''Instituto del Teatro'' (Chile's Theatre Institute), ''Teatro de la Universidad Católica'' (the Catholic University Theatre), ''Teatro del Ángel'' (Angel Theatre Company) and ''Teatro Itinerante'' (Itinerant Theatre).
