La Luna (Portland, Oregon)
La Luna (or LaLuna) was a rock-'n'-roll nightclub in Portland, Oregon, United States from 1992 to 1999. It played a central role in Portland's prominence during the emergence of grunge in that era, helping to propel bands from Portland and the surrounding area like Nirvana, Rage Against the Machine, Sweaty Nipples, The Dharma Bums, Pond, Hitting Birth, Hazel, The Spinanes, Elliott Smith, Everclear, Sublime, The Dandy Warhols, Cherry Poppin Daddies and Quasi to national stardom. It was described as the "best medium-size venue in Portland" and "an all-ages venue that somehow manages to stay cool." Located at the corner of Southeast Ninth Avenue and Southeast Pine Street, La Luna was previously known as the Ninth Street Exit (in the 1970s) and the Pine Street Theater (1980–1991). ''La Luna'' is an album by Holger Czukay, released on June 13, 2000. The album originally consisted of one extended work, "La Luna", recorded four years earlier and described as "an electronic night ceremony". According to Czukay, It seems to me that certain types of albums almost create themselves. In such cases the composer is merely the conduit for a pre-existing energy waiting to be transformed into sound. My experience with La Luna was very much like that. The album is in many ways a product of something similar to the automatic writing techniques of the Surrealists. I had purchased a new sampler and began experimenting with the machine without reference to the instruction manual and filled the brain of the machine to its full capacity with 'sonic memories'. In the late hours of the evening the machine came to life and spoke! The recording you hear is the transcript of this transcendental conversation between man and machine. Angelo Branduardi
Angelo Branduardi (born 12 February 1950) is an Italian folk/folk rock singer-songwriter and composer who scored relative success in Italy and European countries such as France, Germany, Belgium, Netherlands and Greece. Biography Branduardi was born in Cuggiono, a small town in the province of Milan, but early moved with the family to Genoa. He was educated as a classical violinist in the Genoa music conservatory, Niccolò Paganini. At the age of 18, he composed the music for the ''Confessioni di un malandrino'' (''Hooligan's Confession'') by Sergei Yesenin. He is married to Luisa Zappa, who wrote the lyrics for many of his songs. They have two daughters, Sarah and Maddalena, both musicians.
