La Choca
''La Choca'' ("The Bump") is a 1974 Mexican drama film directed by Emilio Fernández and starring Pilar Pellicer. It won the Ariel Award for Best Picture at the 17th Ariel Awards in 1975. Plot summary In the jungle of Guatemala, La Choca (Pilar Pellicer) is a rude woman trying to resist everything, however, she succumbs in front of the carnal desire for El Guacho (Gregorio Casal), a bandit who killed her husband and attacked her family. Audias (Salvador Sánchez) unsuccessfully tries to rape Flor (Mercedes Carreño), Choca's sister in law. In the following days Flor and El Guacho get involved in a sexual relationship which infuriates Choca, who in retaliation kills Flor, El Guacho and Audias. The film closes with a scene where Choca leaves town with her son in search for a better education for him. Emilio Fernández
Emilio "El Indio" Fernández Romo (; 26 March 1904 – 6 October 1986) was a Mexican film director, actor and screenwriter. He was one of the most prolific film directors of the Golden Age of Mexican cinema in the 1940s and 1950s. He is best known for his work as director of the film ''María Candelaria'' (1944), which won the Palme d'Or award at the 1946 Cannes Film Festival. As an actor, he worked in numerous film productions in Mexico and in Hollywood. Estudios Churubusco
Estudios Churubusco is one of the oldest and largest movie studios in Mexico. It is located in the Churubusco neighborhood of Mexico City. History It was inaugurated in 1945 after a 1943 agreement between RKO and Emilio Azcárraga Vidaurreta (of Televisa). In 1950 it was acquired by the government of Mexico and merged with Estudios y Laboratorios Azteca to form Estudios Churubusco Azteca. Since 1958 it has been controlled by the government of Mexico. Of the four motion picture studios during the golden age of Mexican cinema—the others were Estudios America, Estudios San Angel and Estudios Tepeyac—it and Televisa San Angel (the former Estudios San Angel) are still in operation. The Ariel Award ( es, Premio Ariel) is an award that recognizes the best of Mexican cinema. Given annually, since 1946, by the Mexican Academy of Cinematographic Arts and Sciences (AMACC), the award recognizes artistical and technical excellence in the Mexican film industry.
