La Alpujarra Administrative Center
La Alpujarra Administrative Center, officially known as the José María Córdova Administrative Center, is an urban complex of government buildings built in the 1980s for the administration of the Antioquia department and Medellín municipality. The center consists of two buildings separated by a plaza. This plaza includes the sculpture called '' Monumento a la Raza'' by Rodrigo Arenas Betancourt, in honor of the history of Antioquia. Additional businesses in the area include the building of the Antioquia Departmental Business, the National Tax Administration, the National Palace ( es, Palacio de Justicia), the seat of Teleantioquia (a regional TV channel), and the former headquarters of the Antioquia Railway. The La Alpujarra Administrative Center is located on the crossing of San Juan Avenue and Carabobo Street, and is near the EPM Intelligent Building. Medellín
Medellín ( or ), officially the Municipality of Medellín ( es, Municipio de Medellín), is the second-largest city in Colombia, after Bogotá, and the capital of the department of Antioquia. Monumento A La Raza (Medellín)
The , also known as , is an outdoor sculpture and monument in the city of Medellín, Antioquia, Colombia. It is constructed of concrete and bronze, and it was created by Colombian sculptor Rodrigo Arenas Betancourt (1919–1995). It was inaugurated in the central square of the La Alpujarra Administrative Center on 31 May 1988. The monument is made of a curved concrete structure covered in several bronze sculptures that represent Antioquian culture. In 2016, an urn holding a portion of Arenas' remains was set up next to the artwork. History and construction The Medellin government approved the erection of a monument honoring on 4 September 1975. Rodrigo Arenas Betancourt
Rodrigo Arenas Betancourt (23 October 1919 – 14 May 1995) was a Colombian sculptor. At the time of his death in 1995 he was recognized as one of the most important sculptors in Colombia and Latin America. Most of the major cities in Colombia have statues sculpted by Arenas Betancourt. Arenas Betancourt died on 14 May 1995 in the municipality of Caldas, located in the southern end of the Valley of Aburrá and part of the Medellín Metropolitan Area. His bronze statues are characterized by their enormous proportions and dramatic expression. EPM Intelligent Building
EPM Intelligent Building ( es, Edificio Intelligente EPM), also known simply as the EPM Building, is the headquarters for the public utilities company Empresas Públicas de Medellín (EPM) in Medellín, Colombia. The building is located at the intersection of the ''Avenida del Rio'' and Carrera 58, in a neighborhood known as La Alpujarra II. The building is surrounding by greenspace, a series of outdoor fountains, and a stand-alone cube near the building that houses an auditorium.
