LaVerne Allers
LaVerne Allers (born c. 1945) is a former American football guard at the University of Nebraska. He was a consensus All-American in 1966. Early life Allers was born in Davenport, Iowa around 1945 to Mr. and Mrs. Louis Allers. He attend Davenport West High School where he was fullback on the football team under coach Bob Liddy. He also lettered twice in both basketball and wrestling. College career Allers attended the University of Nebraska and majored in soil conservation. He lettered for the Nebraska Cornhuskers football team under coach Bob Devaney during the 1964, 1965, and 1966 seasons. He made All-Big-8 team in both the 1965 and 1966 seasons. Davenport is a city in and the county seat of Scott County, Iowa, United States. Located along the Mississippi River on the eastern border of the state, it is the largest of the Quad Cities, a metropolitan area with a population of 384,324 and a combined statistical area population of 474,019, ranking as the 147th-largest MSA and 91st-largest CSA in the nation. Bob Devaney
Robert Simon Devaney (April 13, 1915 – May 9, 1997) was a college football coach. He served as the head coach at the University of Wyoming from 1957 to 1961 and at the University of Nebraska from 1962 to 1972, compiling a career record of . Devaney's Nebraska Cornhuskers won consecutive national championships in 1970 and 1971 and three consecutive Orange Bowls. Devaney also served as the athletic director at Nebraska from 1967 to 1993, and was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame as a coach in 1981. He died of a heart attack at age 82 and is buried at Lincoln Memorial Park in Lincoln. Playing and early coaching career Devaney graduated from Alma College in 1939, where he played end on the football team. Big Eight Conference
The Big Eight Conference was a National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA)-affiliated Division I-A college athletic association that sponsored football. It was formed in January 1907 as the Missouri Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MVIAA) by its charter member schools: the University of Kansas, University of Missouri, University of Nebraska, and Washington University in St. Louis. Davenport West High School
West High School is a public four year high school located in Davenport, Iowa. Their athletic mascot is the Falcon. The school has almost 200 classes, and over 1,600 students. The school, along with Davenport Central and Davenport North, make up the three traditional high schools of the Davenport Community School District (DCSD). West was built in the 1960s and the current principal is Cory Williams. In addition to portions of Davenport, the school serves Buffalo, Blue Grass, and almost all of Walcott. Facilities The school has been undergoing renovations as a part of continued district-wide remodeling after approval of a 1% Local Option Sales Tax, as well as continuing a Physical Plant and Equipment Levy.
