La Tonya Johnson (born June 22, 1972) is an American activist and politician from Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She serves in the Wisconsin State Senate, representing the seat formerly held by Nikiya Harris Dodd, having easily defeated her opponents in the Fall 2016 primary election, and being unopposed in the general election. Background Johnson was born June 22, 1972 in La Grange, Tennessee. She earned a B.S. degree in criminal justice from Tennessee State University, and has lived in Milwaukee for twenty-eight years. LaTonya Johnson (born 17 August 1975) is a former professional basketball player who played in the WNBA for seven seasons. She also played overseas in Israel and Bulgaria. LaTonya Sims (Tonya Sims) (born January 8, 1979) is a former American basketball player for the PLKK, Polish professional basketball league(PLKK) in Europe and the WNBA. She was a back-to-back girls' high school basketball All-American and Wisconsin Gatorade Player of the Year for Washington Park High School, Racine Park High School in Racine, Wisconsin. In 1997, she was named a first team high school All-American and rated the fifth best prospect in the country, making her the highest rated girls' basketball prospect in Wisconsin to date. She was also named Wisconsin Miss Basketball, Miss Wisconsin Basketball and went on to play for the University of Wisconsin.
