2017 Chilean General Election
General elections were held in Chile on 19 November 2017, including presidential, parliamentary and regional elections. Voters went to the polls to elect: * A President of the Republic to serve a four-year term. * Twenty three of 43 members of the Senate to serve an eight-year term in the National Congress. * The full 155 members of the Chamber of Deputies to serve a four-year term in the National Congress. * The full 278 members of the regional boards to serve a four-year term. In the presidential election, opposition candidate and former president Sebastián Piñera took a lower than expected 36% of the vote—though nearly 14 points ahead of his closest contender, senator Alejandro Guillier, backed by the sitting administration.
