LP On LP
LP on LP (Live Phish on Long Play) is a series of live albums by Vermont-based jam band Phish. The albums contain highlights from different Phish concerts, released on vinyl records. Due to the length of the typical Phish jam, all the albums so far have featured only one or two songs. Three volumes have been released thus far, with the first two being released on June 18, 2021 and the third on August 5, 2022. LP on LP 01 The first release in the series, ''LP on LP 01'', contains a performance of "Ruby Waves" recorded on July 14, 2019, during a concert at Alpine Valley Music Theatre in East Troy, Wisconsin. "Ruby Waves" first appeared on '' Ghosts of the Forest'', a side project by Phish guitarist Trey Anastasio, and the 38-minute-plus version featured here is one of Phish's all-time longest jams. Jam Band
A jam band is a musical group whose concerts (and live albums) are characterized by lengthy improvisational "jams." These include extended musical improvisation over rhythmic grooves and chord patterns, and long sets of music which often cross genre boundaries. Most jam band sets will consist of variations on songs that have already been released as studio recordings. Jam bands are known for having a very fluid structure, often having one song lead into another without any interruption. The jam-band musical style, spawned from the psychedelic rock movement of the 1960s, was a feature of nationally famed groups such as the Grateful Dead and The Allman Brothers Band, whose regular touring schedules continued into the 1990s. The Gorge '98
''The Gorge '98'' is a live box set by Vermont-based jam band Phish. Released on December 9, 2022, it documents their performances at the Gorge Amphitheatre in Grant County, Washington on July 16 and 17, 1998. Background The band's summer 1998 tour saw them add songs into their repertoire that would later be included on that year's '' The Story of the Ghost'' album (including setlist staples "Roggae" and "The Moma Dance", the latter of which was performed during the second set of the July 16 show) and continue the funk-influenced improvisational style that came to the forefront the previous year. Additionally, the 1997-1998 era saw the band's jams increase in their average length by a wide margin, exemplified by the second set of the July 17 show, which lasts over an hour despite being made up of only four songs. Radio City Music Hall is an entertainment venue and Theater (structure), theater at 1260 Sixth Avenue (Manhattan), Avenue of the Americas, within Rockefeller Center, in the Midtown Manhattan neighborhood of New York City. Page Samuel McConnell (born May 17, 1963 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania) is an American multi-instrumentalist most noted for his work as the keyboardist and a songwriter for the band Phish. In addition to having been a member of Phish since 1985, McConnell has been part of a number of other side projects, including leading the electronic jazz fusion band Vida Blue (band), Vida Blue and acting as a session musician for the comedy rock duo Tenacious D. Michael Eliot Gordon (born June 3, 1965) is an American bass guitarist and vocalist most recognized as a founding member of the band Phish. Jon Fishman (born February 19, 1965) is an American drummer known for his work with the band Phish, which he co-founded in 1983, and which was, in part, named after him. He is credited with co-writing nineteen Phish songs, eight with a solo credit. Early life Fishman was born in Philadelphia and grew up in Syracuse, New York. Fishman had a passion for the drums from an early age and emulated John Bonham, the drummer for Led Zeppelin, Bill Bruford of Yes, and Keith Moon of The Who. He went to Jamesville-Dewitt High School in a suburb of Syracuse. After graduation in 1983, he attended the University of Vermont to study engineering. ''Get More Down'' is an album by Vermont-based jam band Phish, released under the alter-ego "Sci-Fi Soldier". The band's sixteenth studio album, it was released for streaming and download on October 31, 2022 and contains the twelve songs debuted during the band's Halloween concert the previous year. Continuing their tradition of a " musical costume" during the second set of each Halloween concert, this show saw Phish perform as the band Sci-Fi Soldier, a futuristic, superhero-themed group, complete with costumes and alternate instruments to fit the theme. ''Get More Down'' features studio recordings of these songs, some of which have entered the band's setlists in later shows. Watkins Glen is a village and census-designated place in and the county seat of Schuyler County, New York, United States. As of the 2020 census, the population was 1,829. Watkins Glen lies within the towns of Dix and Reading. Watkins Glen International, nicknamed "The Glen", is an automobile race track located in the town of Dix just southwest of the village of Watkins Glen, New York, at the southern tip of Seneca Lake. It was long known around the world as the home of the Formula One United States Grand Prix, which it hosted for twenty consecutive years (1961–1980).
