LGBT Rights In Namibia
Lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender+ (LGBT+) persons in Namibia face legal challenges not experienced by non-LGBT residents. Discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity is not banned in Namibia, and households headed by same-sex couples are not eligible for the same legal protections available to opposite-sex couples. However, despite the lack of legal rights experienced by Namibian LGBT citizens, acceptance and tolerance of LGBT people is much higher than in most African countries. The climate for LGBT people in Namibia has eased in recent years. The country's leading LGBT advocacy group is OutRight Namibia, formed in March 2010 and officially registered in November 2010. The Constitution of Namibia is the supreme law of the Republic of Namibia. Adopted on 9 February 1990, a month prior to Namibia's independence from apartheid South Africa, it was written by an elected constituent assembly. Gender identity is the personal sense of one's own gender. Gender identity can correlate with a person's assigned sex or can differ from it. In most individuals, the various biological determinants of sex are congruent, and consistent with the individual's gender identity. Gender expression typically reflects a person's gender identity, but this is not always the case. While a person may express behaviors, attitudes, and appearances consistent with a particular gender role, such expression may not necessarily reflect their gender identity. Petrus Damaseb
Petrus Tileinge Damaseb (born 26 June 1962 in Tsumeb, Oshikoto Region) is a Namibian judge serving as the Judge President of the High Court of Namibia as well as the Deputy Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Namibia. Education Damaseb studied at schools in Tsumeb, Grootfontein and Uis prior to joining the liberation struggle and going into exile in Zambia. In Zambia, he studied at the United Nations Institute for Namibia (UNIN) and obtained a Diploma in Development Studies and Management with a focus on law. In 1984, he qualified as a magistrate through Zambia's National Institute of Public Administration in conjunction with UNIN. He then received a United Nations scholarship to study at the University of Warwick in the United Kingdom, where he graduated with an LLB (honours) degree. Same-sex marriage in Germany has been legal since 1 October 2017. A bill for the legalisation of same-sex marriage passed the Bundestag on 30 June 2017 and the Bundesrat on 7 July. It was signed into law on 20 July by President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and published in the '' Federal Law Gazette'' on 28 July 2017. Previously, the governing CDU/CSU had refused to legislate on the issue of same-sex marriage. Monica Geingos
Monica Geingos (née Kalondo; born 15 November 1976) is a Namibian entrepreneur, lawyer and First Lady of Namibia since 2015. She has been a board member and director within many of the country's large companies. She had also chaired the Presidential Economic Advisory Council. Personal life and career In 2012, she was voted one of the 12 most influential people of Namibia, and in 2020 she was in the list of 100 most influential African women.
