LA EigaFest
LA EigaFest, is an annual film festival held in Los Angeles, California hosted by the Japan Film Society. It showcases the latest Japanese films to the American audience. The festival also hosts a Shorts Competition (the Golden Zipangu Awards) and a Business Panel every year. "Eiga" is the Japanese term for "Film." The festival was founded by festival director Hayato Mitsuishi who is also the Co-Founder and President of the Japan Film Society. LA EigaFest was first held at the Chinese Theatre in 2011. It was then held at the Egyptian Theatre in 2012, 2013, and 2014 and L.A. LIVE - Regal Cinemas in 2015. Film Premieres LA EigaFest has premiered major Japanese films on the big screen in the US that might not have otherwise been seen by US audiences. Film Festival
A film festival is an organized, extended presentation of films in one or more cinemas or screening venues, usually in a single city or region. Increasingly, film festivals show some films outdoors. Lupin The 3rd (film)
is a 2014 Japanese heist film directed by Ryuhei Kitamura based on the manga of the same name by Monkey Punch, starring an ensemble cast led by Shun Oguri, Jerry Yan, Tetsuji Tamayama, Gō Ayano, Meisa Kuroki and Tadanobu Asano. It is the second live-action film adaptation of the manga, following '' Lupin III: Strange Psychokinetic Strategy'' (1974). The film is an origin story that presents its characters in a modernized context, and follows the title character as he forms his thieving gang to steal a Cleopatran necklace while facing opposition from Michael Lee, his rival, and Pramuk, a crime boss. Rurouni Kenshin (film)
(also known as ''Rurouni Kenshin: Origins'' in North America) is a 2012 Japanese period action-adventure film based on the manga of the same name written and illustrated by Nobuhiro Watsuki. Directed by Keishi Ōtomo, the film stars Takeru Satoh and Emi Takei. It focuses on fictional events that take place during the early Meiji period in Japan, telling the story of a wanderer named Himura Kenshin, formerly known as the assassin '' Hitokiri Battōsai''. After participating in the Bakumatsu war, Kenshin wanders the countryside of Japan offering protection and aid to those in need as atonement for the murders he once committed. Rumors circulated of a live-action adaptation of the manga before it was announced. Unforgiven (2013 Film)
is a 2013 Japanese jidaigeki Western film written and directed by Lee Sang-il. It is a remake of Clint Eastwood's 1992 western ''Unforgiven'', written by David Peoples. The film was screened in the Special Presentation section at the 2013 Toronto International Film Festival. The film also made its US debut as the opening film for LA EigaFest 2013. It was also presented in 2014 in the Palm Springs International Film Festival (World Cinema Now category) and out of competition in the 70th Venice International Film Festival. Kyoto Inferno
is a 2014 Japanese film based on the manga series of the same name, and serves as the second installment of the ''Rurouni Kenshin'' film series', following the first film '' Rurouni Kenshin'' (2012). The film was followed by a direct sequel, '' Rurouni Kenshin: The Legend Ends'', which takes place immediately from the ending of ''Kyoto Inferno''. On June 21, 2016, Funimation announced that they acquired the rights to the ''Rurouni Kenshin'' live-action trilogy for US distribution. ''Kyoto Inferno'' was released subtitled in US theaters in September 2016. A home video and video on demand release followed shortly after.
