LAPD Air Support Division
The Air Support Division (ASD) is the police aviation division of the Los Angeles Police Department. It is the largest municipal airborne law enforcement organization in the United States and operates from the LAPD Hooper Heliport. While originally devoted to aerial traffic enforcement, the ASD has grown to support a wide variety of police activity. Today, its operations are divided between Air Support To Regular Operations (ASTRO) and Special Flight Section (SFS). The Air Support Division currently operates nineteen aircraft of two different brands, and maintains the largest municipal police aviation unit around the world, in addition to having the world's largest roof-top airport and world's busiest heliport. The Bell 407 is a four-blade, single-engine, civil utility helicopter. A derivative of the Bell 206L-4 LongRanger, the 407 uses the four-blade, soft-in-plane design rotor with composite hub developed for the United States Army's OH-58D Kiowa Warrior instead of the two-blade, semi-rigid, teetering rotor of the 206L-4.
