Adele Buffington
Adele Buffington (born Adele Burgdorfer, and sometimes billed as Jess Bowers) was an American screenwriter of the silent and sound film eras of Hollywood. Early life Adele was born in St. Louis to Adolph Burgdorfer and Mary Elizabeth Frederick, both of whom were immigrants from Germany. Before moving to Los Angeles at the age of 16, she worked in a movie theater, where she got to watch countless films. Once she arrived in Los Angeles, she got a job selling tickets at a theater in Hollywood; she worked as a treasurer for several theaters during this time period. Career Before she was out of her teens, she sold her first screenplay, 1919's '' L’Apache'', which was produced by Thomas Ince for the Famous Players-Lasky Corporation. After being added to the studio's scenario department, she continued to pen silent screenplays throughout the 1920s. Joe De Grasse
Joseph Louis De Grasse (May 4, 1873 – May 25, 1940) was a Canadians, Canadian film director. Born in Bathurst, New Brunswick, he was the elder brother of actor Sam De Grasse. Biography Joseph De Grasse had studied and was a first-class graduate of accounting and he began his career as a journalist, but soon became enamored with the theater and took work as a stage actor. In 1903, he quit his full-time job as the City of Boston's bookkeeper to pursue acting. In 1910, he acted in his first motion picture and although he would appear as an actor in 13 films, and write 2 screenplays, his real interest was in directing. While working in Hollywood, Los Angeles, Hollywood for Universal Studios, Universal Pictures, De Grasse met and married one of the few female directors working at the time, Ida May Park (1879–1954). Clara Beyers (c.1880 – c.1950?) was an American silent film stock actress.A stock actress was an actress who was employed by the studio on a contract much like present day employee contracts. Beyers acted on stage for nine years before she began making films. She acted with stock theater companies in Omaha, Philadelphia, San Francisco, and Vancouver. When she turned to film, she signed with the Balboa company. She was signed in 1913 and starred in 32 films before her retirement from film in 1922.
