Læsebog I Modersmaalet
''Læsebog i Modersmaalet'' (informally referred to as "Pauss og Lassen"), later titled ''Hjemme og ute'' and ''Heime og ute'', was a reading book series that was published in numerous editions between 1884 and 1958 and that was widely used in the school system of Norway for around 80 years. The work's original authors were Bernhard Cathrinus Pauss and Hartvig Lassen. After Lassen's death, the series was edited by Pauss and Andreas Martin Corneliussen, and after Pauss' death by Corneliussen and Olaf Ellefsen. From 1921, the work was edited by Mathilde Munch and Sven Svensen and retitled ''Hjemme og ute''. At times, the series was used by half of all pupils in Norwegian schools. Reading Book
Basal readers are textbooks used to teach reading (process), reading and associated skills to schoolchildren. Commonly called "reading books" or "readers" they are usually published as Anthology, anthologies that combine previously published short stories, excerpts of longer narratives, and original works. A standard basal series comes with individual identical books for students, a ''Teacher's Edition'' of the book, and a collection of workbooks, assessments, and activities. Description Basal readers are typically organized. Stories are chosen to illustrate and develop specific skills, which are taught in a pre-determined sequence. The teacher's editions are also tightly organized, containing much more than the answer key to the questions that usually appear at the end of each reading passage. Bernhard Cathrinus Pauss
Bernhard Cathrinus Pauss (born 6 April 1839 at Tangen, Drammen, died 9 November 1907 in Christiania) was a Norwegian theologian, educator, author and humanitarian and missionary leader, who was a major figure in girls' education in Norway in his lifetime. He was headmaster and owner of Nissen's Girls' School (1872–1907/1903) and head of its affiliated women's teachers college, the first higher education institution open to women in Norway. He was also a lecturer at the Norwegian Military Academy. He was chairman of the Norwegian Santal Mission (1887–1907), in succession to Oscar Nissen, and founded and edited the journal ''Santalen''. He also wrote and edited several schoolbooks in Norwegian and German, including the reading book series ''Læsebog i Modersmaalet'', that was one of the most widely used schoolbooks in Norway for over half a century. Hartvig Marcus Lassen (9 August 1824 – 9 August 1897) was a Norwegian editor, educator and literary historian. Personal life He was born in Bergen, Norway as a son of police chief and burgomaster Albert Lassen (1783–1860) and his wife Abigael Vogt Monrad (1792–1861). Sven Svensen
Sven Adolf Svensen (29 January 1863 – 21 May 1943) was a Norwegian schoolteacher and politician. He was born in Brunlanes to Søren Henrik Svensen and Oleane Nilsdatter. He was married to Anna Elisabet Skaar, and was thus son-in-law of bishop Johannes Skaar. He worked as schoolteacher in Gjerpen and Christiania, and school inspector in Trondheim and Drammen. He was elected representative to the Storting for five periods from 1922 to 1936, for the Conservative Party. His publications include ''Bibelhistorie for Middelskolen og for folkeskolen'', ''Lærebok i grammatik, analyse og tegnsætning'' (1901), ''Trondhjem, byen og dens historie'' (1907), ''Katekisme-undervisning'' (1922) and ''Drammens tekn. aftenskole i 50 år'' (1936). Nordahl Rolfsen
Johan Nordahl Brun Rolfsen (12 June 1848 – 18 January 1928) was a Norwegian writer, educationalist and teacher, journalist, translator and speaker. He is best known for the series of five readers for elementary school, (1892–1895), which became the most widely-used schoolbook in Norway. Family Rolfsen was born in Bergen. His parents were merchant and later bank teller Rasmus Rolfsen and Jannikke Brun. He was great-grandson of poet and bishop of Bjørgvin Johan Nordal Brun, and grandson of shipmaster, shipowner and member of the Norwegian Constitutional Assembly Jens Rolfsen. He married Hedevig Martha Hastrup Birch in 1885. He was the father of painter Alf Rolfsen.
