Lyubov Zabolotskaya
Lyubov Sergeyevna Zabolotskaya (russian: Любо́вь Серге́евна Заболо́тская; born April 2, 1956, in the village of Sardyk of Kirov Oblast) is a former Soviet cross-country skier who competed during the early 1980s, being a member of the Soviet Team between 1978 and 1985. She won a silver medal in the 4 × 5 km relay at the 1982 FIS Nordic World Ski Championships in Oslo. As a senior skier she competed for "Zenith" club of Moscow Oblast. She joined Soviet national team in 1978 at VI USSR National Winter Games (russian: Зимняя спартакиада народов СССР). She never won gold of the Soviet National Championship, but she was the second in a 30 km race at the 1984 Soviet National Championship; several times she won bronze in 5 km and 10 km races in at 1981 and 1983. The FIS Nordic World Ski Championships 1982 took place on 19–28 February 1982 in Oslo, Norway at the Holmenkollen ski arena. This was Oslo's record-tying fourth time hosting the event after previously doing so in 1930, the 1952 Winter Olympics, and 1966. The Nordic combined 3 × 10 km team event and the ski jumping team large hill events were added to these championships. The FIS Nordic World Ski Championships 1999 took place February 19–28, 1999 in Ramsau am Dachstein, Austria. The large hill ski jumping events took place at the Paul-Ausserleitner-Schanze in Bischofshofen. The 7.5 km Nordic combined sprint event debuted at these championships. Galina Alexeyevna Kulakova (russian: Галина Алексеевна Кулакова, born 29 April 1942) is a Soviet former cross-country skier, arguably the best skier on distances shorter than 10 km in the early 1970s. She won four Olympic golds, two individual in 1972 and two relay golds in 1972 and 1976. She was the most successful athlete at the 1972 Winter Olympics, along with Ard Schenk of the Netherlands. Competing in the World Championships, she won three individual golds, two in 1974 and one in 1970, and also two relay golds in those years. Raisa Petrovna Smetanina (russian: Раиса Петровна Сметанина; born 29 February 1952) is a Soviet and Russian cross-country skiing champion. She is the first woman in history to win ten Winter Olympic medals. Career Smetanina took part in five Olympics, representing the Soviet team four times and the Unified Team once. In particular, Smetanina won two gold and one silver medals at the 1976 Winter Olympics, becoming the most successful athlete there, along with Rosi Mittermaier of West Germany.
