Lykov Family
The Lykov family (russian: Лыков, translit=Lykov) is a Russian family of Old Believers. The family of six spent 42 years in partial isolation from human society in an otherwise uninhabited upland of Abakan Range, in Tashtypsky District of Khakassia (southern Siberia). Since 1988, only one daughter, Agafia Lykova, Agafia, survives. In a 2019 interview, Agafia explained how locals were in contact with the family through the years and in the 1950s there was a newspaper article about their family. Survivalists
Survivalism is a social movement of individuals or groups (called survivalists or preppers) who proactively prepare for emergencies, such as natural disasters, as well as other disasters causing disruption to social order (that is, civil disorder) caused by political or economic crises. Preparations may anticipate short-term scenarios or long-term, on scales ranging from personal adversity, to local disruption of services, to international or global catastrophe. ''The Siberian Times'' is an English-language news website that was originally launched in Novosibirsk, Russia in 2012. According to the editor of the website, Svetlana Skarbo, their aim is to challenge stereotypes about the region which have been described as "negative and out of date". Former employees at East2West Limited have made accounts saying the idea for the site was formulated by Will Stewart, a British journalist who often cites it as a source in his articles. Stories from the news site are increasingly garnering the attention of the Western media. One such is an article about frozen Siberian worms becoming reanimated after thawing out of the permafrost.
