Lwów–Warsaw School
The Lwów–Warsaw School () was an interdisciplinary school of thought, school (mainly philosophy, logic and psychology) founded by Kazimierz Twardowski in 1895 in Lviv, Lwów, Austro-Hungary (now Lviv, Ukraine). Though its members represented a variety of disciplines, from mathematics through logic to psychology, the Lwów–Warsaw School is widely considered to have been a philosophical movement. It has produced some of the leading logicians of the twentieth century such as Jan Łukasiewicz, Stanisław Leśniewski, and Alfred Tarski, among others. Its members did not only contribute to the techniques of logic but also to various domains that belong to the philosophy of language. Kazimierz Twardowski 1933
Kazimierz (; ; ) is a historical district of Kraków and Kraków Old Town, Poland. From its inception in the 14th century to the early 19th century, Kazimierz was an independent city, a royal city of the Crown of the Polish Kingdom, located south of the Old Town of Kraków, separated from it by a branch of the Vistula river. For many centuries, Kazimierz was a place where ethnic Polish and Jewish cultures coexisted and intermingled. The northeastern part of the district was historically Jewish. In 1941, the Jews of Kraków were forcibly relocated by the German occupying forces into the Krakow ghetto just across the river in Podgórze, and most did not survive the war. Bronisław Bandrowski
Bronisław Bandrowski (; 27 May 1879 – 27 July 1914) was a Polish philosopher and psychologist. He was one of the pupils of Kazimierz Twardowski. Drawing from his mentor's theories and the tradition of the Lwów–Warsaw school, his works dealt with the problem of induction. Bandrowski was also noted for his death in the Tatra Mountains on the Orla Perć. Background Bandrowski was born on 27 May 1879 in Mościska ( Galicia, Austria-Hungary). He was the son of Alfred Bandrowski, a court clerk, and Joanna née Zajączkowska. He was also the nephew of the Polish opera tenor Aleksander Bandrowski and the cousin of the writer Juliusz Kaden-Bandrowski. After finishing high school, Bandrowski took classical philology and philosophy at the University of Lviv. In 1905 he obtained a doctorate in philosophy. Set theory is the branch of mathematical logic that studies Set (mathematics), sets, which can be informally described as collections of objects. Jan Woleński
Jan Hertrich-Woleński (also known as Jan Woleński; born 21 September 1940) is a Polish philosopher specializing in the history of the Lwów–Warsaw school of logic and in analytic philosophy. He has spent most of his academic career at the Jagiellonian University in Kraków, where he is currently Professor Emeritus. His main fields of research are logic, epistemology, and the history of philosophy in Poland. Life Jan Woleński was born in Radom, Poland on 21 September 1940. His first interest was law and he began studies at Jagiellonian University in 1958. Soon philosophy drew his attention and by 1963 he was employed in the Department of State and Law as an assistant professor. Edmund Husserl
Edmund Gustav Albrecht Husserl (; 8 April 1859 – 27 April 1938) was an Austrian-German philosopher and mathematician who established the school of Phenomenology (philosophy), phenomenology. In his early work, he elaborated critiques of historicism and of psychologism in logic based on analyses of intentionality.
