Lusitano
The Lusitano, also known as the Pure Blood Lusitano or PSL (''Puro Sangue Lusitano''), is a Portuguese horse breed. Horses were known to be present on the Iberian Peninsula as far back as 20,000 BC, and by 800 BC the region was renowned for its war horses. The fame of the horses from Lusitania goes back to the Roman Age, which attributed its speed to the influence of the West wind, who was considered capable of fertilizing the mares. When the Muslims invaded Iberia in 711 AD, they brought Arabian horses with them that were crossed with the native horses, developing a horse that became useful for war, dressage and bull fighting. The Portuguese horse was named the Lusitano, after the word Lusitania, the ancient Roman name for the region that modern Portugal occupies. Vicente Lusitano
Vicente Lusitano () was a Portuguese composer and music theorist of the late Renaissance. Some of his works on musical theory and a small number of compositions survive. Lusitano was for a time a Catholic priest and taught in several Italian cities, but later converted to Protestantism. He is believed to have been of mixed race. Since the 1980s, he has been described as the first published black composer. Life and career Lusitano, a Portuguese-language term for "Portuguese", appears to be a descriptive nickname rather than a family name. Little is known of his life. He was born in Olivença, likely around 1520. Lusitano is described as ''pardo'', a Portuguese term indicating he was of mixed European and non-European heritage. Amato Lusitano
João Rodrigues de Castelo Branco, better known as Amato Lusitano and Amatus Lusitanus (1511–1568), was a notable Portuguese Jewish physician of the 16th century. He is sometimes is said to have discovered the valves in the vena azygos. Life Lusitano was born in 1511 in Castelo Branco, Portugal. He was a descendant of a Marrano family called ''Chabib'' (= ''Amatus'', "beloved" in Latin), and was brought up in the Jewish faith. After having graduated with honors as M.D. from the University of Salamanca, he was unable to return Portugal for fear of the Inquisition. He went to Antwerp for a time and then traveled through the Netherlands and France, finally settling in Italy. His reputation as one of the most skillful physicians of his time preceded him there, and during his short sojourn at Venice, where he came in contact with the physician and philosopher Jacob Mantino, he attended the niece of Pope Julius III and other distinguished personages. Union Sportive Créteil-Lusitanos (commonly referred to as US Créteil, USC, or simply Créteil) is a French football club based in Créteil, a southeastern suburb of Paris. Union Sportive Luistanos Saint-Maur or US Lusitanos Saint-Maur is a French football club based in Saint-Maur-des-Fossés, Val-de-Marne, the southeastern suburbs of Paris. Lusitano Futebol Clube de Vildemoinhos is a Portuguese Association football, football club from the parish of Vildemoinhos in the city of Viseu. The club was founded on 14 August 1916 and plays in fifth tier of the Portuguese football league system. In the 2018–19 Taça de Portugal, Lusitano lost the first round 4–2 at home to S.C. Beira-Mar, but were one of 22 teams restored to the second round, where they won on penalties at F.C. Oliveira do Hospital. In the third round, the team won 4–3 after extra time against Primeira Liga club C.D. Nacional. Luzitano Futebol Clube, commonly known as Luzitano, was a Brazilian football club from São Paulo, São Paulo state. They competed in the Campeonato Paulista three times. History Luzitano Futebol Clube was founded January 1, 1920, by Portuguese expatriates living in Brás neighborhood, São Paulo city, hence the club's name. They won the Campeonato Paulista Série B, organized by the Associação Paulista de Esportes Atléticos (APEA) in 1929, and in 1935 they won promotion to the Campeonato Paulista after winning the Campeonato Paulista Série A2.
